Wrist spin in the Caribbean

Calling all posters that actually get to watch age-group cricket in the Caribbean.

Do we have any wrist spinners on the horizon at all? There isn't a single wrist spinner in the HPC or A team squads. I don't know enough about the under 15s touring England to comment.

Pretty much every other team has one at their disposal and they make a huge difference. There is no way someone like Coulter-Nile flukes a match winning 80odd with a decent wrist spinner at our disposal.

You must understand the culture of Caribbean people,we doh like to wait too long.Spinners need to be nurtured and helped along the way,we in fact say they not world class. They must understand that it takes time.Over the years we have had many good spinners, but they were enviously given a few test matches and then finish them off, just like that. Some of the spinners should have gone on to play many test matches, that never happened. At the moment we have Miller from Jamaica,Warrican from Bim and Moti and Bishoo from Guyana, one of those should have been in the team.Take a look at the present Under 15s and you will find spinners doing better than the fast bowlers, they will continue to do better than the pacers, but time move on to the senior team never happens,if it does it is never regular.

Hold up, we need proper spin bowling. Generally, batsmen in the West Indies are not coached to play sping well, Therefore we have a lot of incomplete spin bowling who do well locally and regionally but cannot do it at the international level. I have not seen much of Moti, Bishoo was once the ICC emerging player of the year in 2011 but lost form and lost out to Narine and Shillingford. Still, have time for Bishoo. Chase is a very good off break option. As is Pierre as a left arm orthodox and Cornwall. Do know of the Under 20 players

Wrist spinning is hard work so we will have very few of those
Leg spinners will cause more problems than off spin so our best spinners are the non wrist spinning lefthanders..Benn..Permaul..Moti..Warrican..Miller
Chase is a very clever bowler..he just doesn't spin the ball
Bishoo is the only one who really looks faintly test class..although Warricans destruction of England A was very impressive

Why is it always about upcoming? A lot of leggies touch their prime at an older age. Tahir is 40 and doing the business still for SA. Damion Jacobs did well for the A Team. Imran Khan does a good job in Super 50s. Surely can't be worse than what we're currently getting.

Thing is I have seen both Khan and Jacobs in action. They don't turn it much and neither uses the googly well either.

You have to at least have the raw material to work with.

Ive always wondered about Damion Jacobs, he burst onthe scene a few years ago in the regional competition and hasnt progressed since then.

I haven't seen a decent wrist spinner from the Caribbean since Ramnarine. Hard to understand with our batsmen so deficient against spin and with our wickets no longer friendly to fast bowling why no decent leggies are emerging. Instead we get some ordinary left arm orthodox spinners piling up a hole set of wickets with straight balls.

Maybe we need to have a bonus points policy for wickets taken by genuine leg spinners like we did for fast bowlers at the age cricket level. Double bonus for wickets taken with googly .... so we dont just harvest more Nogooglyshoos. Lol

These days their value is really in the limited overs game.
