On Saturday, on the over two mile stretch of highway synonymous with the burning of Mr. Harding and Bridgetown Market- the stretch of road where revelers wrap up their Foreday morning and Grand Kadooment journey- a special ceremony took place to honour a man who, for many, is a cultural icon.
In a rite replete with cultural pomp and pageantry, the seven-time Road March winner, whose real name is Leo MacDonald Blenman, in the company of his family, joined Prime Minister Mia Mottley in unveiling two signs: one bearing the name “The Mighty Grynner Highway” at the junction of Exmouth Gap, and the other, giving a brief history of the man who many, including himself, refer to as ‘the ugly man’.
