Lloyd wants WI cricket talks

West Indies legend Clive Lloyd says there is an urgent need for the Cricket West Indies board to hold a cricket symposium to discuss the current state of the game in the region and determine a way forward thereafter.

The former West Indies captain, who was very present at the ongoing 2019 ICC World Cup commentating on the West Indies matches, said it is critical for the CWI to get all the stakeholders involved in these sessions, get their input and use the information collected in these forums.

“We need to have the board set up a cricket symposium and get major stakeholders who can make a difference on board,” Lloyd told Guardian Media.

“We need to sit down and plan properly what we want to do at the youth level, which is under-15 come up, what we need to do with our A teams and the senior team. We must not forget the ladies, as we must have a comprehensive plan in moving forward.

Lloyd

Under Cameron, you had no voice, why didn't you speak up
then?

Now it seems you cannot shut up!!!!!!

You failed in Administration, go away.....

This is not necessary. There is sufficient documentation sitting on shelves on stakeholder meetings which is current that can be used to develop 5 year strategic plans.

We have had too much talk for the last 20+ years.

The priority should be:

(i) Putting a governance structure in place which is functional and which lends to accountability at all levels - on going.

(ii) Sorting out the Selection Policy - ongoing.

(iii) Development of a strategic plan - ????

That's mostly what we do in this region, talk and make grand plans. These are useless if the attitudes and culture of the people one has to work with are sub-optimal. And of course, culture and attitudes are a function of what happens at the individual and local levels, which no hierarchy has control over. Hopeless as it seems, that's the hard reality.

I know the Board reads this site

You have been on target about what is required to help
Cricket in the Region and asking pertinent
questions, yet no one hears your pleas.

Those documents are covered in dust and will be ignored on stakeholders shelves, most note that such individuals are to be replaced. Why would they want to do such.

Caribbean citizens have a 7 day memory and are docile
with administrators, expect another two decades
of failures.

sigh

The debate here seems to be one related to this question: Does Harvard "make" you bright or is it that those enrolled make Harvard shine? For me, the answer is simple - it's the recruitment, stupid.

...expect another two decades of failures.

Any system which lacks accountability is doomed to failure.

But, first one must have individuals who can recruit those diamonds in the rough,we have the ability after discovery to turn them into charcoal.

We have allowed the British to mould our players in their leagues, then when it stopped, we see the results for the past two decades.

They took a diamond in the rough that was discarded, developed him, today, he will represent them in a WC final.

What do we do , we bytch and call him a traitor.

The whole process has to start with the persons charged with the responsibility of decision making (CWI).

The idea should be to get different skill sets within the directorship of the board which will strengthen the collective ability to make the best strategic decision.

The idea that anyone can come from Timukto and offer himself as President with the complicity of a few jackasses and joyriders from territorial boards is counter productive and does not adequately serve the best interests of West Indies cricket..

A better idea is for Caricom (I will get cursed) to appoint a Nominations Committee which will make recommendations for appointments of directors. Limit the CWI to 10-12 directors and streamline (fuse the functions) the number of cricket committees.

Newdread will be happy with the streamlining of the Cricket Committees.

Yes, such a format would be ideal, at least they can be held accountable.

Jimmy Adams is still on his honeymoon on the job..

On another note, wouldn't he have contributed to the firing of the coaching staff et al prior to the WC?
