HEADLINE: Cricket West Indies Spin Bowling Camp Led By Mushtaq Ahmed Underway

St John’s, ANTIGUA – Cricket West Indies is investing in two regional spin bowling camps, using the services of legendary former Pakistan leg-spinner and current West Indies spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed. This is part of a new coaching investment programme to focus on improving players’ skills for those that are breaking through to elite level cricket and follows recent white ball/T20 skills and red ball camps which took place in Antigua.
The two regional spinners camp are taking place in Antigua & Trinidad and Tobago. The Antigua camp commenced on July 20th and concludes on July 27th featuring current West Indies ‘A’ squad participants Rahkeem Cornwall (Leeward Islands), Roston Chase (Barbados) and Khary Pierre (Trinidad and Tobago). They are joined by Joshua Bishop (Barbados), Gudakesh Motie (Guyana), Keron Cottoy (Windward Islands), Larry Edwards (Windward Islands), Akim Frazer (Jamaica) and Chaim Holder (Barbados).
The camp in Trinidad and Tobago runs from 29th July to 3rd August and will feature solely local spinners who are Imran Khan, Yannick Cariah, Yannick Ottley, Akeal Hosein and Kissoondath Magram.

This is great news, hopefully, we can develop or unearth a few international spin bowler for the three formats

Is this the first time this camp is being run? What have the others produced? What about accountability and roi?

This is the first the camp is being done this way.
The concept of the two camps is a brilliant idea. The main camp in Antigua comprising current A team participants and a local camp in Trinidad. Next time around the local camp would be from a different island, who knows, it may be in your neck of the woods, little England.
Eventually a core of spinners will be identified and managed accordingly.
Support the new management sensible initiatives by Mr Jimmy Adams to bring West Indies cricket back to number one.

Is this the first time this camp is being run?
The only specialized camp I'can think of, is Fastbowling camp.
This camp is needed, I watched the A team today, and our spinners bowling like medium pacers, from four steps.

They should invite the batsmen to play the spinners.

They should invest in a bowling machine as well as hiring one or two batting consultants to come in for the batting camp, Hooper & Sangakkara for instance.
