HEADLINE: Ambrose remains opposed to Gayle farewell

CaribbeanCricket.com 2019-08-01 23:07:54

West Indies bowling legend Curtly Ambrose has maintained the belief that the regional team should have looked past star batsman Chris Gayle for the regional team’s tour against India.

The 39-year-old opening batsman had initially announced plans to retire from international cricket, following the recently concluded ICC World Cup.

Gayle, however, changed his stance just ahead of the tournament and indicated he would stay on for the upcoming tour of India as a potential farewell.  Ambrose and a few others, however, believe the World Cup was the perfect time for the veteran to step aside.  The left-hander was, however, included in an ODI squad to face India.

Ambrose just vex because he chose to retire early so as to be available full-time for his part in the Dread and the Bald-head duo. The other half of the duo, Richie then chose to abandon him and take an eat-a-food wok with the ICC (??), leaving him seeking relevance in this media centric age.

Narper 2019-08-02 00:11:57

Ambrose behaving like a big SKUNT !!!!

Obviously there is bad blood between the two

But Ambi is coming over as very desperate to retire Gayle

There was a time when Ambi had given up on WI cricket....he was hoping to become a rock star with 'his music'....wen that failed he returned to WI cricket to become the 'high five coach'....and I believe he more suited to be a consultant

Ambi cool your effing herbs

Some of us think these former greats, are gods.
A close friend was attending a Canadian cricket conference in TO, Richie Richardson was part of the conference, being both Antiguan he was happy to meet Richie and ask him questions about West Indies cricket.
The topic of Ricardo Powell came up, Richie said Ricardo Powell will be the next best West Indies batsman, some expletive came from my friend, who went outside, called me and say, Richie knows f-- all about cricket, telling me that Powell is the next best.
He and I have been discussing cricket from the early 70's, we both knew that Powell, was not up to scratch.
The great Richie said he was going to be the next great.
He has moved back to Antigua, and is staying far away from the jokers.

Dem Trini skonts all de same!

Toney 2019-08-02 02:17:53

Dem Dotties have never forgiven Sir Alexander Bustamante for abandoning dem to find another Udder to suck on after Britain, their former Milch Cow, decided to wean them. That's why Ambrose and his fellow Dotties are so rabidly anti Yardie.

This how the Federation got messed up. The man is right Gayle is past it and should be retired. This has nothing to do with liking this one and hating another. We are all Caribbean people.

The Great Ambi is entitled to his opinion just as you numpty keyboard warriors are to yours.

I for one knows whose opinion on cricketing matters to take seriously! razz

For Gayle it's just about breaking Lara's Test and ODI aggregates. Why on Earth will you unretire after WC to play ODIs? What's the benefit to playing only one test after many years.

I am sorry I lost some regard for Gayle

An opportunist! sad

You realize Gayle cannot select himself?

he can't select himself, but he knows how to get the media to be behind him
And then the media starts to select the team and then you see Gayle in the squad.

Farewell? UB said he will play another 5 years. Does it mean it's a 5 year farewell?

So Tony might be wrong in his assertion.

Why don't you enlighten him, and by extension, us, on the real reason(s).

By the way, Good Morning, JOJO.

Clearly not... They are a bunch of pussies anyway. Oh wait, where is the chairman of the selectors from again??

I'm mostly disappointed with my old friend Jimmy Adams as the Director of CWI, he should know better.

What about Holding, has said anything about the situation? bet not. If it were a player from a different territory, he'd be mouthing off non-stop as if there is no tomorrow.

It's no wonder WI cricket is in the state that it currently is now... frendies and the like.

Utter bullshit.

Why aren't there "thumbs up" emoticons here?

.......................

As for the Federation, the OECS as a grouping are united and the economic rewards are tremendous. The dissolution of the Fed must must be seen as a "Jah send" for the OECS.

The OECS as an economic grouping with its own Central Bank and other strong institutions have over the years been making much greater economic strides than the Rhode island fowls.

IMHO, even Caricom in its current construction can do without the quarrelsome Jamaica.

GO YOUR OWN SEPARATE WAY. WE DON"T NEED YOU. You are an obstructionist and a distraction.

Correct assessment. Leave his ars* out. Let him take his bat and go mercenary.

A newspaper article I read this morning said: "He chose to opt out of the T20 series against India."

My question is aren't the CWI/selectors building a T20 team too?

"The more things change the more they remain the same." In this case it is worst.

Skerritt/Shallow, the honeymoon is over. You are not worth it. Too many poor decisions have slipped thru your administration in such a short space of time. You appear spineless and ballsless.

I clearly remember some years ago Ambi said he stopped following the game to the point where he didn't even know who the team was playing- I believe his words were something to that effect.

When I read that interview I was both shocked and sad. I though then as a legend what impact his eords would have had on young fans (stop following cricket?) and players.

Today we see the youths not showing up for our matches.
