Starc and Hazelwood resting

So, the Brits partied a little too much after they lifted the WC is understandable. They will be ready to do battle next match.
Moeen needs to be dropped!

Their batting has been suspect for a while

Yes, we saw that in the Caribbean.
There's a big difference between one day cricket and Test cricket. England have a very good one day side, but a mediocre Test team.
Should be Malan, Foakes, Leach & Archer in for Denly, Bairstow, Ali & Anderson but it won't happen.
Australia should bring Starc in at Lord's, probably for Pattinson.

Malan?

Scored 4 x 100's this season.
I would have liked Hildreth to have scored some runs but that hasn't happened.
Roy at some stage will probably be moved down the order for Crawley or Sibley, but they've hinted that the New Zealand tour will see a rotated squad as it's not in the World Test Championship.

Saw him previously.
Doesn't look test class to me but hey

Obviously different conditions in England but he scored runs against Australia in Oz.
Bairstow's average for 2019 is 12 or something.

Lets see

I don't think he'll get called up, just what me sitting in my armchair would do.

haseeb hameed just fell away
he looked like the one guy who would play the long one
most of the guys on the circuit now are bashers

The ECB have somewhat forgotten about FC Cricket. Going 7 & 9 in terms of CC1 & CC2 was strange.
3 leagues of 6 would have been better.
T/20's taking up most of the Summer and creation of The 100 isn't going to make finding players for the longer format any easier.
Hameed is still very young and could comeback, that injury took longer to recover from than expected & his form fell of a cliff.
