Cowlasher or established batsman (if such exist in WI) takes a huge swipe and he connects...."ketch am good."
Ball lost! SIX!
Commentators full of praise and feigned or real excitement. "Great shot. MASSIVE" etc. Superlatives galore!
Media controls public expectations.
Fans get delirious and fall in a trance.
Is who/what the crowd some to see.
That swipe for six has become the norm, par for the course.
Bigger the six, more intense the orgasm.
Bigger bucks!
Now, a flashy star just hit a six like that before but in a few deliver(ie)s he made anodda swipe and didn' t connect properly "mi nah ketch am good" and gets out. All Hell breaks loose!
Commentators complaining and criticizing the same shot they were full of praise for before.
The public calling for heads to roll right away.
It is like darn if you do, darn if you don't. Difficult spouse syndrome.
When you are trying to hit the ball out of the park, you will get out, sooner than later.
Same shot gives thrill and cursing out.
Eating McDonald's and complaining that you gain weight and cholesterol gone up.
Same knife that sticks sheep...
Can't have your cake and eat it too.
Classical batsman? Where are they?
Nobody wants to see them.

Remember the name!!!!...Carlos Brathwaite!!!
Look where he is now and where Ben Stokes is.
Even the fiercest critics of LICKIT cricket have it deep down their throats now.
In reply to goofballs
YOU have always been , and You are a
very perceptive Person . I salute YOU!!
In reply to Courtesy
Just a little observation.
If the commentators not with the program and don't cowlash the cowlashers, they will be out of a job sooner than later.
In reply to POINT
No SIR. I salute you for your perseverance in attacking the INCOMPETENTS in Administration and the need for restructuring.
Your critics cannot refute what you say but rather criticize you and accuse you of perseveration.
In reply to goofballs
Mate, you started a great thread don't get sidetracked.
I beg to differ. Point's manic posts are not examples of perseverance, it's INSANITY on stilts.
A thousand threads saying the same thing ad nauseam represents a complete detachment from reality.
There must come a time when we all should say "Point, we got your message loud and clear, now you move on from there."
In reply to Courtesy
You are right also!
About the topic of the thread.

This is distracting to the fullest degree.
Sorry for putting it bluntly.

Self-deprecating definition is - tending or serving to disparage or undervalue oneself.

My dad used to take us to Bourda from we were kids. At one match after watching a batsman play strictly defensive shots, a spectator shouted 'lick di ball'. He went on and on 'lick di ball'. Eventually di batsman did just dat and was caught - di spectator then shouted out 'not dat ball'.
Dat is 'we'
In reply to Chrissy
But isn't that what separate the good/great ones? Know which ball to hit! That's why this game is so great, a thin line exist between it being a good shot as against you getting out.

Something similar happen with Lawrence Rowe vs India in 1976. After Rowe was being tied down by the India spin quartet, one fan in the eastern stand shouted,
"USE YUH FOOT YAGGA, USE YUH FOOT!! SHOW DEM YUH IS DE BEST, NO BATSMAN IN DE WORLD GOOD LIKE YUH!!"
After playing defensively to a few more balls, Rowe used his feet to one from Bedi, missed, and was promptly stumped.
With Rowe dolefully trudging back to the pavilion after scoring a fighting 40-odd runs, the same fan shouted,
"Gweh, Yagga, Yuh No Good! Yuh Fi Guh Wash Plate!!"

Philo Wallace comes out to bat for Barbados against the Windwards at Kensington Oval. Casper Davis and Cameron Cuffy bowling.
Fan in the Kensington Stand:" Dat fella Wallace can't bat!!"
Wallace goes on the attack, hitting a couple of 4s and 6s.
Same fan in Kensington Stand: "What I tell wunnuh!! Dat is me boy!!"
Two balls later, Wallace gets out playing another attacking stroke..
Same fan in Kensington Stand: "What I tell wunnuh!! Dat fella can't bat!!"

Wow! You nailed it. You are describing fellow CCC posters.

When the fans influence the players, we are screwed.
When the commentators influence the players and fans expectations, we are doubly screwed as the media is much more influential. Ref: Hilary and Russia.

Seems like WI fans are most influential. Pity we can't exhort these guys to win games.
In reply to runout
Yes !!That is why we have wagon threads, goat mout threads, reverse goat mout threads!!

Yep, sheer hogwash attitude like this makes things the way they are, mi friend.
Is wah de people dem come see and pay for?
To lash ball, period!
If the fans and commentators bawling in uncontrollable orgasms at the lashing it will influence the performer on the stage.
It is a fact that if you keep on lashing, you can't last as long as Pokey Joe.
Then they get all mad when the guy gets out lashing because of the Screamers.
If we have different expectations............
In reply to goofballs
A get even madder when the Pokey gets out.
But in this case isn't Gayle a Pokey Joe theses days? poking and get out is worse than bashing and out IMO.
Commentators should call a spade a spade and not scream in ecstasy at crap.
They have an influence.
Everybody/thing has an influence on people.
In reply to natty_forever
Joe should stay as long as possible in the crease
In reply to goofballs
And if they are indeed excited at the lash?
In reply to goofballs
He tries, but scoring 10 off 57 balls and then get out is killing us more than a 7 ball 22. We talking ODIs and T20s right?
In reply to natty_forever
Twice I was given this advice by older men.
You could lash all you want till you are finished, but Pokey never done.
In reply to goofballs
Pokey and out tho, will not work even more. As you get set you out!
How it works, one stroke, then 20 minutes later another stroke
you sure that going entertain?
In reply to goofballs
man all you have said is that people like to be entertained!
THE TRUE PROFESSIONAL always knows his weaknesses and what he has to work on in the nets to be BETTER.
No FAN can convince a player he is greater than he truly is...the actual execution is the purveyor of TRUTH...not one off flukes of good performances and dropped chances ....
not the constant short ball crap that keeps getting spanked while you stand like a big DUMMY wondering how come these Bangladeshies batting better than the Pakistanis??
those Are amateurs ....the pros know they have to practice and work on the flaws to improve
no bloody FAN should be able to convince me that I am better than I KNOW I am...that is the stuff of kintergarden mate
In reply to powen001
Well if you dunce, they can.
In reply to natty_forever
On the contrary, all the WI fans are begging Hit-ram to take his time and build an inning. Do you think he ever listens??? He cow lashes a brilliant 6 or 4 and then goes into his hari-kari mode.
Goofy can't fault Gism, reverse gism etc. This hit-ram guy is just the most frustrating player to watch bat. This is an apt demonstration of talent without brain. BTW, where is Duksey???

Great!
The weaker we are, the more we get influenced like with large body tattoos, head shaving etc. crimes, etc.
