What is the sweetest fruit ever
In reply to black
Lychee?
In reply to Chrissy
Damn, I never had that.
But it's not what I was thinking.
A site from a google search resulted in dates being the sweetest, not that I've ever been inclined to buy them in stores here. *shrug*
I'm happy enough with my mango+pineapple+watermelon combo for sweet delight that surely must be a taste of heaven.
In reply to black
cherimoya according to Mark Twain
Sweetness is a matter of taste. And tastes differ from individual to individual and it is acquired.
So technically, "the sweetest fruit" does not exist.
In reply to black
Sappodila
In reply to Tryangle
Dates are pretty sweet but I was thinking of something in our region.
In reply to StumpCam
That would be my choice.
In reply to StumpCam
Boy, dat is sweet.
Coochie!
In reply to Courtesy
I think the Jamaicans call it by a different name! Chrissy??
In reply to Courtesy
Don't think I've had that one, or is this a case of lost in translation?
*prepares his "Now I know" speech*
In reply to StumpCam
Oh yes. I am sure they have a new name for it now.

In reply to black
A fruit found on the East Coast and interior called somotoo. Not sure what the official name is but its the size of a golden apple but its soft and you need to bite it and the entire core is liquid filled with tiny seeds that you swallow with the liquid. Outside of the mango, this is the sweetest fruit I have ever tasted.
In reply to Tryangle
It's a rare fruit, probably not available in Bermuda...but boy, dat is sweet.
naseberry, chico or sapota
In reply to DukeStreet
I thought somotoo was a little tart?
Isn't somotoo the same as passion fruit?
In reply to DukeStreet
Somatoo ... Sapodilla is close but just like JackFruit you easily get gains. But not the same with Somatoo.
Sumatoo
In reply to black
Isn't somotoo the same as passion fruit?
Think they are similar. Not as sweet as sappodila in my experience.
In reply to tigga

A big grafted mango can make you dizzy
A ripe paw paw
A ripe banana especially the the fat small yellow ones we call finger rose (in Antigua)
In reply to black
This might sound stale and corny but is the truth.
I guess people get false names for a reason.
When I came back to the West and lived in Merica I had almost negligible contact with West Indians. Even if they were around, was too busy working overtime and overnight every 3 days and many weekends.
Anyhow I met some guys in New York and they kept on talking about this fruit and I tried to get them to tell me about it.
All they said was "It is the sweetest fruit on earth."
Once they were talking about it on CCC and peeps like Doosie did not believe I didn't know what it was.
CCC taught me a lot.
That fruit never existed in the vocabulary during my youth in Guyana.
In any case, I was too young to sample it.
Sapodilla

Sidyam
In reply to DukeStreet
Whitey is a waste of time.
They are ok but I would not lose sleep if I never had another whitey, again.
In reply to black
Whitey is the same as Fat Poke?
Sweet common ones.
A speckled banana is a daily must. Good for the constitution also.
Better yet, cut it and put in the cereal with milk.
Sweet red cherry.
Mandarin, the sweet sister of tangerine.
In reply to goofballs
No, fat poke is different, if I'm not mistaken.
Whitey comes in a pod like beans but it grows on trees, not vines.
In reply to Benjie
Nice.
In Bim, we call them Figs. They are about 3 to 3.5 inches long.
My Granny would pick them young and put them in a Barrell with some grass. You could smell them as soon as you enter the door when they are ripe, even though the barrell is closed.
In reply to black
U must not have had some fat whiteys. They may be magga but dem sweet bad tho.
In reply to TheTrail
Same in Guyana.
In reply to DukeStreet
They are ok, not enough meat to brag about.
In reply to black

In reply to birdseye
So many great fruits in these parts..
These days we picking up some of the sweetest mangoes on the road in many places,it's a real joy driving and see them fall and pull aside and pick up and nyam one time, as fresh as it can get and free...some people go driving just to pick them up...
In reply to black
Watermelon is very sweet but only in the Caribbean - I usually squeeze a lil lime on mine because some of them can can be insipid. On the other hand sometimes the are just perfect -chilled and sweet with flavour
In reply to cricketest
Yes boi balata on the north coast is the sweetest thing you could put in your mouth..
forgot that yes..there are a few trees round the QPS P.O.S..a surprise treat walking round the savannah when in season and falling..
In reply to camos
Boi it hard to get sweeter than them sugar apple..we have other varieties but they not sweeter, they a bit tangy like fresh cocoa pods..
In reply to camos
Nah man. Sugar apple got it beaten by a country mile.
With sugar apples, you have to get to it before the birds do. They would leave custard apple for it. Even they knew they were sweeter.
