A Tribute to Alvin Kallicharran By Albert Baldeo

“Kallicharran is one of the best players of spin bowling I have seen…This is not to say that he was inadequate against pace, and, at his best, is the complete player.” – Clive Lloyd

“Once we walk out to bat, there is no rich or poor and there is no black or white. It is just me and you. So I was brought up in that culture of being a streetfighter – that you don’t see danger, you don’t see anxiety. All you are looking at is tomorrow – how will you fight again. So Lillee bowling to me is, just… I’m going to bat again tomorrow. Not that I don’t respect him. I respect what opposition we are playing against, but if you say that you are going to walk out and feel intimidated, what are we going out there for? Why did they select me if I am not going to fight?” – Alvin Kallicharran

Amen to the greatness of Kalli! As a schoolboy, I remember the conversations as to who was a better batsman Yagga or Kalli? Still unanswered.
big grin

Correct is right.

Great school boy debate

For me...debate continued in the dorm ( Canada Hall) at UWI St Augustine....tons of yardies lived in Canada hall wink

Of course, since I am Jamaican I say Yagga.
If I am not mistaken Viv said once that Yagga was a better batsman than him. So I close my argument when royalty speaks.
Enough of that Kalli was truly great and I wish I had him batting for WI right now! big grin big grin

You speak with true tongue. Kalli was my favourite batsman when he was playing. I never forgot him hooking and pulling Lillee during ‘75 World Cup but the Aussies had the last laugh in Australia.

Never heard that

But if he did, then he would have said that after Kalli left for SA.

Viv felt very strongly against going to SA during the apartheid days
