Jason Holder: "Bowlers did a good effort, but we didn't bat well. Batting issues to sort, going on for too long. Top order not doing well, leaving much for the middle order to do. Wicket was a good wicket, we should've batted better. Ajinkya batted really well, everyone batted around him. It was a difficult wicket to blast players out. I wouldn't question the team selection. We played the same combination in the last series and we did very well. I think we've got to blame our batting performance. We could've put up a much better performance. In hindsight you can say a lot of things, but we players need to take more responsibility. Bumrah bowled really well, one of those spells that will dislodge most top-order players. That said, we need to be a lot better as a batting unit. For Jamaica, it's a place we have found success and our players have done well. Hopefully we can do that."

The usual lock box comments. When will JHO say we are just not good enough as a unit on the international stage?

Shift the burden of responsibility to CWI.

Simple translation - we cannot bat

I will have to say it for JHO and bring CWI inefficiencies to the fore.

It is CWI which thinks that mental strengthening of players is a priority area when clearly this is not so.

Jason must stop shouldering the blame and responsibility. The employers have a major part to play in getting the employees ready to face the challenges.

Take..

responsibility..

take

More takes.. more responsibility..

Same $hit over and over..

I wouldn't question the team selection.

And why would he, when he himself chose to omit Cornwall on match day? And he selected Cummins, probably for no other reason than being Bajan.

Would it have made a difference in this match? No.

Would it have helped WI cricket in the medium and long terms? Probably so. How would WI cricket develop in the long term, if promising players from other territories don't get to develop?

Bumrah bowled really well

Yeah, right. This subservient mentality helps to keep WI cricket where it has been for over 2 decades now.

Great observations.

The most interesting part for me:

...It was a difficult wicket to blast players out.

Yet Boomerang blasted them out. So what is the reason for being blasted out by Boomerang?

Norm 2019-08-25 22:54:07

In reply to Courtesy

what is the reason for being blasted out?

Blatantly pelting the leg cutter. The same would have occurred to any other team. The ball that bowled Hope would have been unplayable for any other batsman, in any place or time. JHo got one that was almost as bad. Campbell and Bravo were taken by surprise.

If only it had been the first time that they got blasted out by a player named Boomerang. They have been blasted out countless times during a 25 year era when there was no Boomerangs around.

My question is this. Where are the technical members in all of this? We all know Bumrah and the Indian pace bowlers were going to play in this test. Why was no assessment done on each bowler's delivery? I keep repeating..Holder is not a captain material,so much blunder, no assessment of a batsman. The CWI keep using this guy as captain.

hubert 2019-08-25 23:36:29

The question I have is, Did anyone think of using a bowling machine and try to Simulate the Indiam pacers'' deliveries.?
In this technological age, this is not a stretch .None of these bowlers is a stranger as players all over the world have access
to video tapes on every player..if they want.
So what is being done in camps ?
Some machines can be set to 90 mph to bowl yorkers, bouncers or other short stuff. No ? Sessions in camp should embody scientific methods especially for this lot who play very cricket of a high level prior to Tests.
I wonder . But as Waste Indies cricket is not really on my radar, I could give .....(Blank).
sad

What if the focus was on mental conditioning?

Philjam 2019-08-26 02:59:00

You need expertise in that field to condition these guys..the mental aspect should be a trained professional to help these guys think through different situations.

Scar 2019-08-26 03:14:24

He said the same mix of players!?? Or he meant prayers? Cause Brooks and Cummings was no where in the series vs England and we had a different keeper who can hang tough when needed.
