ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies’ interim selection committee today named the 13-member squad for the second Test match against India at Sabina Park, Jamaica. The match starts on Friday, August 30 and is part of the MyTeam11 Series, co-sponsored by Skoda and KEI.

All-rounder Keemo Paul has recovered from an ankle injury and is available for selection. He replaces fast bowler Miguel Cummins. Wicket-keeper Jahmar Hamilton will remain with the squad. Shane Dowrich, has returned to Barbados to continue his rehabilitation, after being ruled out of the Series with an ankle injury.

This is the second Test match in a series which marks the start of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC)or both teams, the new two-year Test Championship to find out the best Test team the world. West Indies have the chance not only to win the second Test to draw the Series, but also the opportunity to claim sixty (6o) points for a win or to claim their first points in the WTC. In this Series, each team can earn 60 points for a win or 20 points for a draw and this is the first of six Test Series which West Indies will play.

Is Gabriel fit? He has come a long way and I agree with his inclusion only if fit. The only adjustment to his game should be a tighter offstump to middle stump at the body line. He should have a man at mid wicket on the circle as well. After frustrating a batsman, the release is usually an aggressive pull shot. The deliveries should not be short enough for a fine leg so that should help having a man under the helmet at forward short leg and or backward short leg. This would definitely play on the batsmen mind. The line and length must be tight enough (back of a good length) to where they cannot drive or cut.

Roach has improved and if he continues to bowl like he has, it would mean that he can keep one end tight and bowl Gabriel 2 over spells at the batsmen.

It does not matter who West Indies picks for the team (A team, B team or main team), they will be an embarrassment. This is not going to get any better any time soon folks. If any of you really analyzed what is going on here you would not waste your time picking a team...

the reality is that from the administration to the players have gotten comfortable losing. It's a dangerous place to be. It really doesn't hurt them anymore. If they really wanted it to change for the better you would have seen signs by now...

I hope for better than the last Test, they are presented with the opportunity to redeem themselves, but many organizational changes should be considered after the series is over.

In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com West Indies cricket will not get better until those who represent the West Indies develop some pride. I know it's just a game, but to see these so-called batsmen, who played those atrocious shots and got out, sitting in the pavilion grinning out their teeth, with their team being bowled out for a hundred with a day to spare was more than I could take. These guys don't care about West Indies cricket. They just go through the motion while anticipating a call up to play T20. I think West Indies should withdraw from test cricket for the next five to ten years and concentrate on building a team from the ground up, starting in primary school, with knowledgeable, experienced former West Indies greats coaching them, teaching them to bat and bowl. That's the only way forward.

Sure, but they will never make it to the senior team, because the old "stars" or someone's "friends" won't let them. The first Test of this very series sort of proved that again.


Playing a better opponent should be a welcome opportunity to improve one's game. So, WI should make the most of it.

Yeah, I would go with that team and batting order too...let's see how this pans out.

Jamaica has suffered from a drought, so selectors, please, please don't expect to see a pitch taking pace! A specialist spinner should be selected, IMHO.

Unfortunately, we can recycle players to our choice but the reality is that the results will be the same. However, our choices may give us hope if they put up a better or fighting display.

The truth is in the facts where these guys on the field are the end product of what the WICB/CWI has created for over two decades which is did "NOTHING" in promoting and developing the sport in the region. A broken infrastructure (Personnel, policies, vision, technology, poor pitches at club & national levels, unhealthy tournaments, etc) = Poor Players.

What they did excel in however, was to be in opposition with the players.

"DON'T HATE THE PLAYER, HATE THE GAME (POLITICS)"

Despite all of the above I would like to see Pollard captain this team. I think his experience, leadership and tactical skills could make a difference in performances and JHo can be his understudy. Remember JHo without any prior leadership experience took over from Ramdin for the very same reason of being ineffective as captain, therefore that's what he knows and has become.

Therfore, my team would include Pollard (C) for Hope, Hamilton (wk/bat) for Brooks, Cornwall for Cummings, Paul for Gabriel

Surprise me selection comittee with Cornwall, and keemo above brooks. From what I have observed, holder ensures players from Barbados gets a game, usually at the detriment of team balance.
