Holder batting position is simple

If you value his bowling more then he bats in the bottom 5.
If you value his batting more then he bats in the top 6.

If the call was mines, it'd be so simple, he bats in the bottom 5 because his bowling is of the most value to us.
It is unwise to have a cricketer, ranked in the top 5 in the world in bowling and try to force and push his batting infront of his bowling.

His potential as a batsman exceeds his bowling

Ok currently one of the top 5 bowlers in the world.

Do you think he can be one of the top 5 batsman in the world?

A hard "no".

But the argument arises simply because he is the best batsman the test squad on form, and probably top 3 on a regular day.

He should bat at number six or seven.

He has a higher ceiling as a bowler in my view. I’d say he has the potential to average close to 40 with the bat and under 25 with the ball.

Whilst I rate Holder as a batsman, we should be concerned if he’s our best player.

He bats at 8 only because we play 4 bowlers and he largely bowls 20+ overs. If that formula continues than it’s unreasonable to expect him to be a front line bowler and be a front line batsman coming in at 40/4 after after 75 mins.

He can bat 6 or 7 as the situation merits but only if we play another specialist bowler.

The increase bowling load of Chase is also affecting his freshness as a batsman. There is no need for Steve Smith to bowl if he will bat for two days.
