RIGHT MAN, RIGHT TIME
CWI explains switch to Pollard
BROTHERS IN ARMS: Newly-installed West Indies ODI and T20 skipper Kieron Pollard, left, and T&T and TKR teammate Dwayne Bravo in a show of solidarity at yesterdays CWI media conference held at the Hilton Trinidad.
Kieron Pollard is the right man at the right time to move our development in white ball cricket forward.
That was the claim yesterday of Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Ricky Skerritt after the regional body announced radical changes to its selection policy.
And 32-year-old Pollard, who will replace Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite, respectively, as One-day International and T20 skipper said he is ready for the responsibility. When you decide to do something you stick to it and you go wholeheartedly; thats what I intend to do, he said at a CWI press conference to announce the change at the Hilton Trinidad yesterday.

The chance was given to previous captains in T20 and ODI, why can't we wait till we see what the results will be
before hanging Pollard.
Previous Captains were deemed to be failures yet had a
long run at the helm.
Is it possible to afford Polly the same opportunity.
If he fails jettison him.

Give him time
Bravo, new WI skipper an influential leader but :
FELLOW all-rounder Dwayne Bravo says the appointment of Kieron Pollard as West Indies captain is great news, but is urging supporters to be patient.
Pollard was named captain of the West Indies T20 and one-day international (ODI) teams yesterday morning, at a Cricket West Indies press conference, at the Hilton in St Anns. Bravo said the decision was one many people within the Caribbean have been waiting on and it came at the right time.
Speaking with Newsday, he described the new captain as a positive and influential leader, adding that West Indies cricket is currently at its lowest, especially in the white ball format.
The results arent going to change overnight, but if we give him time and allow him to build the team that he wants, the West Indies brand of dominating the white ball formats of the game could actually start happening again and I just wanna wish him all the best and he will do it.

Pollard: All hands on deck
New WI captain on player selection
NEW West Indies 50-over and T20 captain Kieron Pollard wants all players available for selection, saying the level West Indies are playing at right now needs all hands on deck.
Yesterday, at a press conference, at the Hilton Trinidad, Port of Spain, Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Ricky Skeritt announced that TTs Pollard will be at the helm for the shorter formats of the game. Pollard replaces Jason Holder as 50-over captain and Carlos Brathwaite as T20 captain. Holder will remain Test captain.
A number of the regions top players have had issues with CWI under the leadership of Dave Cameron between 2013 and 2019. Players such as Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy have been out of West Indies colours for years, but Pollard is keen to have everyone available.
He said, From the last sort of conversations before the last (50-over) World Cup, we were told that each and everybody was available for selection.

Pollard will remain captain until after this next world cup.
One of the mandates given to him is the grooming of 5 or 6 youngsters identified by management as future leaders.

he is already a failed ODI player, much better results at T20, but i am willing to see how this decision pans out before any comment, the way i see it not much lower we can go, hopefully he does better than Brathwaite, who shouldn't have been T20 captain in the first place.

Polly had his moments in ODI where he did come good. Truth be told we put too much pressure on one player when everyone else collapses.
I wish him the best.

i don't fully agree, his stats speaks for him, paltry ODI returns, but given our current record i would look past those stats, his leadership won him the captaincy and it might be just what the patient needs.
i want him to do well, we need to start winning, i think we have forgotten how to win with all these defeats
i will admit i was expecting a return of Darren Sammy in the T20
