Shane Warne says he is happy with his London Spirit squad for the inaugural Hundred competition, as the likes of Chris Gayle and Lasith Malinga paid the price for overvaluing themselves in Sunday night’s draft.

Australian legend Warne, who will coach the Lord’s-based franchise led by World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan, selected countryman Glenn Maxwell, England quick Mark Wood and Pakistan fast-bowler Muhammad Amir as part of his 15-man roster for next summer’s tournament. 

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan was the first overall pick for the Trent Rockets, but T20 superstars Malinga and Gayle were among those who went unsigned, after electing to place their reserve prices in the top salary bracket of £125,000, meaning they could only be selected in the opening round.

CG is at a stage in life where they (100 Organizers) have to make it worthwhile for him to play this format of the game.

He doesn't need the money, nor the fame. And it is best that he doesn't risk injury until the next IPL comes around.

Forget Gayle for a moment. How about Malinga? Still a quality bowler and a big-name, big-ticket draw. But undrafted.

Still think that price + age + availability a big factor in these teams' decisions at the start of the draft.

Let's put in terms of one of the high roller professional/businessman here.
If they have stashed away their robbery, I mean income/profits, and are just chillin or retired, were accustomed to collecting say a meager approximate $50K per month.
Then decide to do a gig out of boredom, need for variety etc. and say the absolute minimum they will do it for is a 60% markdown at $20K and the contractor/payor doesn't want to do it. You, a man of self worth, value and pride would not want to sell yourself shorter.
So, screw dem!

I don't know Gayle's or Malinga the Beast's individual situation or self value and pride.

Suffice to say that they have been around a long time and probably accumulated some. Also because of not being born yesterday, they are the ones best qualified to place a minimum value/floor on the price of their labor/artistry for that gig.

and the owners of the commodities stand by their own value (I think).

In high school days we used to hear how Asian countries would rather dump rice and other grains in the ocean rather than sell at lower price.
This in effect will increase the demand for the now scarcer commodity.

Gayle and Maligna "best sell by" date passed. I am sure they are aware of it when they decided on their price otherwise they have bad advisors.
