Steve smith
Rory Burns
Peter Handscombe
I mean Tiger's stance was weird but technically he was as good as you get in terms of getting in line with the ball, playing late etc.
These guys just have plain weird techniques. Smith is successful but my personal opinion is because they don't bowl many yorkers to him. Smith would have been food for wasim and ambrose and especially waqar younis. Burns and hanscombe look hideous and the results are there to see. Just my take from watching the tests last night

I looked at the scorecard, did not see the Aussies batting card, are you sure in was not Pakistan batsman, with what you consider to be weird techniques?

Was wondering de same thing when i read the post.. cause Pakistan batted last night
Man probably watched ah old match
Steve Smith is revolutionizing batting. He has developed a way of getting quickly into the right positioned...unhampered by ancient classical approaches
Just watched an Unorthodox XI on Sky Sports with Burns and Sibley as openers, Smith at 3, Shiv at 4 with Paul Adams, Murali and Thommo as the principal bowlers

maybe. but as i said, smith does not face many yorkers. Rabada, who does bowl many full deliveries or full length deliveries has consistently kept him quiet. And I am saying that the quicks and even the spinners now, are not as skilled operators as the previous generation. Dale steyn, who also bowels many full deliveries at pace, has also kept him quiet. One century vs steyn. I dont think he has ever scored a hundred vs rabada. The only thing saving smith is superb reflexes. Burns and Handscombe have odd techniques and they don't have anywhere near the success smith has. Their reflexes aren't as good. That's why in my eyes, there is daylight between Virat kohli and the rest

Forget that...pay attention to where the are when they play the ball

Cricket is a funny game. There are batsmen with good technique who can't make runs. Then there are batsmen with weird technique who make runs. Maybe it's not all about technique but rather the ability to score runs.
One of the good things about Smith, is his balance, he is moving his feet, whether he playing from an open stance, or a close stance.

He has a wonderful technique against spinners though.

Exactamundo!
Every idiot who saw Shiv's stance, his twitching, his trigger movements said he didn't have a good technique.
But at the point of contact with the ball and after playing the shot Shiv was invariably in great balance and correct form with feet, hands, head etc.

Yeah Doosra is right. If you look at Smith when he plays the ball you see him make the extra effort of trying to get his head in line with his bat (and bat generally as straight as possible) as well as play everything as late as possible.
That weird backfoot straight drive he has completely nullified the English outswing bowlers as he would wait right until the ball had swung its maximum angle and just punt it past mid off.
The only weakness I've seen back here in SA is bowlers would move him further and further past his off stump and he'd end up with his trigger movement essentially almost giving you full view of middle and leg.Think Rabada knocked him twice lbw like that , but it takes a fast and skilful bowler to pull this off.If you just slightly miss the mark he knocks you square of mid on.

That's a very good assessment of Smithy's technique.
But a lot of it comes down to sheer hand eye coordination as well. As he ages and those reflexes get slower he'll struggle.
Same thing happened to Viv at the tail end of his career.

Viv is a born genius, Bish ask Viv how do you play spin, or a bowler , do you read the bowlers hand or on the pitch.
Viv remark , he doesnt know about of that fancy stuff, he just see the ball and hit it.
