anansi 2019-11-30 06:37:45

Closing in on 300
OZ commies getting excited

Lara is coincidentally at the ground. lol

anansi 2019-11-30 06:39:47

300!!!!!!!

DonD 2019-11-30 07:03:41

Warner is now 323.He is looking very fit. He should be given the opportunity to break Lara's record. Warner is playing with the bowling. Hope lara is watching.

anansi 2019-11-30 07:15:48

Oh Well
I think he could have broken the record
Pulled off after passing Bradman and Taylor
Team first!

They've declared

DonD 2019-11-30 07:21:14

Yea! Paine has declared. I believe that given Warner and Smith's indiscretions, the Oz authorities choose to deny Warner this record.

what's the link between the two?

A cheat is not deserving of this high honour particularly if the team does not need the runs.

brians_da_best 2019-11-30 07:28:17

In reply to DonD

I don't think that's fair. they made a mistake, served their time, and are back now. Why carry the grudge?

DonD 2019-11-30 07:36:43

In reply to brians_da_best

Smith and Warner will always be remembered for their cheating and for bringing dishonor to Australia. Their cheating was headline international news for some time. Smith most likely will never be given the captaincy again even if his batting surpasses the divine Don Bradman. And BTW, given OZ's colonial history, organized cheating might well, at least in terms of lip service, be anathema to the present generation.

anansi 2019-11-30 08:00:30

In reply to DonD

So why did they allow him to pass Bradman‘a record?
Bradman is more revered than Lara in OZ.
Now we have a cheat above the God Bradman?

Even to Ozzies, Bradman is not revered as a God. More like a god. Taylor many years ago refused to surpass Bradman's 334. Hayden did away with that sentimental crap by scoring 385 against Zim.

Warner was clearly gassed. Did you see him bending over his haunches after his last few runs?

Not sure about CA not wanting him to have the record.

Chrissy is boss. Where she get all dem white fowl from at dat hour of de morning?

385???

I clearly remember Lara hitting a six,
while on 374,
who equaled the then record of 380.
That record was held by Hayden,
who broke Lara's record of 375;
who broke Sobers' record of 364*
Hutton etc....

I'm sure yours is a typo.

I disagree.

I believe that My Ozzies put team above person.

That said, I was very disappointed.
with three and a half days left,
they should have broken the record.

The Paks can't survive my Ozzies bowling attack.

Although Ozz is my team now..
I am still Wondian.

Do congrats Lara for keeping the record.

doosra 2019-11-30 11:31:34

In reply to TanteMerle

didn't they allow Hayden to get 380 (break Lara's)?

dayne 2019-11-30 13:32:10

Well Warner did his batting average a great service after the disaster in England. Congrats to him, but Pakistan must be looking forward to the end of this tour, I think the captain is going to lose his job after it is over, he is not keeping his team motivated it seems

voiceofreason 2019-11-30 14:02:20

Allyuh think 400 easy?? I was there for every single Lara run and I was exhausted. smile

Tante! man you telling me to check my facts. I always thought Sobers scored 365 NO. Len Hutton's record was 364.
I'm sure yours is a typo.

Chrissy, if you were watching today
you would have seen that
Lars' record was in jeopardy.

Warner look like he could have batted for 5 days
He as running aggressive till declaration
He was playing with the attack.
It looked like net batting/practice

He scored his runs at 80% strike rate

Believe me, he looked like scoring 500

Ozz places Team before person.

Very admirable.

Let me reiterate.
I am Wondian first but support Ozz.

I wanted Warner to break the record.
Just the same, I am proud of Lara.

Every run was an event! It was a masterclass how he toyed with that bowling just piercing the field with surgical precision and this against a very good attack. Better than the one he scored the 365 against. What I tell people is that we were staring down the barrel of the first blackwash on home soil we needed something inspirational to thwart the English. Remember the series was already lost 3-0 so there was nothing to lose but a lot of pride to gain.

As a fan of sports, I was shocked to see the declaration.
I enjoyed Sir Gary 365 , Lara 375 & 400, Hayden 380, Hank Aaron breaking Babe Ruth.
Thats what records are for, not for region, colour or nationality.

Chrissy that is a heck of a statement to make given the rate at which triple centuries are being scored and the wide gap separating the top teams from the minnows. Since 1867, there have been approximately 31 triple centuries scored. 11 between 1867-1993 and 19 from 1994-2019.In 1958 Sobers scored his 365 in 1994 Lara scored his 375. Only 6 triples were scored during that period -36 years.
Contemporary batsmen are fitter, pitches are better prepared, outfields are better prepared, bats are better.
I watched Warner last night. Warner showed little signs of being tired. At times he was actually toying with the bowling. In an earlier post, I gave my reason why I believe Oz declared and did not allow him to go after Lara's 400. I may be wrong but that was my reasoning.

Do I want to see lara's record broken? As a West Indian NO!! As a cricket fan it does not matter one iota. A few years ago I said on this board that given the state of our cricket administration and the indiscipline often shown by our players, I am switching my loyalty first and foremost to the game and disavowing my chauvinistic inclinations to West Indies cricket which I have adhered to for close to 60 years. I still feel that way today even though I still cheer for the West Indies when the team plays. I have lived through the very best of Windies cricket. I have also lived through the worst of it. Since the 90s nothing has improved, so I will enjoy Kohli, Starc, Rabada, Smith etc etc in equal proportion.

Most teams are not willing to give up a test victory in pursuit of an individual record, so yeah, it won't be broken.
