Also, we seek out people, not doors, so that guy would have gotten a witness, if these were really Witnesses.

Here, look at it this way....we go to homes to find people.
Why...because thats where they are.
Each door belongs to someone or a group of peiple....and so did that door...in fact the person actually COMES to the door....so this is exactly what we want..
Regardless if it is actually a home.
