Hit a boundary....then tek a single

Narper 2019-12-08 01:09:10

Alyuh hear Hety lil speech after the game....he is working on the mental approach

Hety is back in my good books

Go get them Hety....recite the mantra....boundary....look for a single to calm down....build the innings....even in T20s....learn from Kohli boy

cricketfreak 2019-12-08 03:27:26

it will never work for him. kohli think the game of cricket west indies just talk.

So if there are three consecutive bad balls bowled, will he still hit it for a single?

Pathetic, to say the least.

That is why we need Mr Brian Lara, etc around these guys to let them know that you play each ball on its merit.

Forget about the ball bowled and prepare to face what is presented before you. A bad ball is always a bad ball; irrespective....you are on 2 or 99.

When you become stereotyped taking a single after a boundary, you are setting up yourself for trouble against quality bowling oppositions.

That is why we have seen the last of the better days during Mr Brian Lara's era. ASS....A Sad Story.

This is robotic batting at best.

An international batsman must be extremely good at the basics in "playing 360 degree shots" and then perfect his/her batting from there.

I heard the comment and while it's a start for Hety he must think beyond hitting a boundary and taking a single.

What if the ball after the boundary is a rank long hop? This frame of mind could easily get him out attempting a single with a BAD ball...being inventive. This is the Shai Hope mindset...that's why Shai is not good at T20.

You have to look to dominate the bowling in T20 by limiting risk. The concept is ideal when you have time. You don't have the luxury of time in T20.

As poster Lamb says above. A batter must learn to put away most bad balls and in T20 you have to take it a notch higher by making good balls look bad.

Hety should have said: "I am learning to play 360 shots and attempting to get really good at the basics."

I think this is the first step in trying to stop Hety from trying to bash every ball. The coach has to start somewhere

i dont think he meant it as a recipe but as a general / overall approach

he probably didn't say it correctly

in any case, i am glad to see him thinking about this matter...

if this is done enough his approach will improve

I'll cut him some slack. The first rule in solving a problem is to have a deep appreciation of the problem. If anything, it tells me he recognizes that he has a problem. That's good.

Let's see how he goes from there.

This is his problem. I think being selective in choice of shots and ultimately being inventive with good balls is the solution for T20...not a robotic approach.

I think that playing each ball on its merit is the ultimate coaching goal. However the coach needs to give Hety something simple to work on. Just telling him to play each ball on its merit is too abstract at this stage. See how easily Hety repeats the mantra..after I hit a 4 I must look for a signal...

I think that after he masters this the coach will give him another challenge to bring him closer to the ultimate goal.

"Playing every ball on merit" does not apply in a T20 game. Inventiveness while minimizing risks is the key to it.

Narper 2019-12-08 13:25:02

Come on alyuh....why are you taking the statement literally.....just to nit pick?

He obviously recognized he gets carried away after a boundary...and gets out going immediately for more....so he is making a conscious effort to curb that tendency...

Its a real start.

May I remind you guys Hety is still a youngman.

cricketfreak 2019-12-08 13:39:41

So that mean if no boundaries no singles? I think sometimes it is better for them to just keep their mouth shut .

Assessment of what is required to win in that instant and whether it was worth the risk.

It's not as binary as we think.

Narper 2019-12-11 16:22:04

Skunt maan !!!!!Yuh lapse again

9.3
Kuldeep Yadav to Hetmyer, out Caught by Rahul!! Change of angle works. But Kuldeep is lucky here, a juicy full toss and that was the last delivery he would have wanted to bowl. Hetmyer gets too eager on the slog and ends up mistiming it towards wide long-on. Rahul, gets across to his left to take a jogging catch and starts celebrating with a fist pump

Hetmyer c Rahul b Kuldeep Yadav 41(24) [4s-1 6s-5]

9.2
Kuldeep Yadav to Hetmyer, SIX, consecutive sixes! Hetmyer shows that he can hit to any part of the ground. Waits in the crease for the fuller one, this is spinning away and he goes with the turn over wide long-off. A flat six

9.1
Kuldeep Yadav to Hetmyer, SIX, Kuldeep blasts himself as soon as he bowled this one. Fed this on leg stump, right in Hetmyer's arc and he slog swept it merrily over deep mid-wicket and it's into the second tier!

ray 2019-12-11 16:22:33

it was a full toss...it was supposed to be hit

Narper 2019-12-11 16:24:50

in the fielder's hands????

Cant hit along the ground?....he already hit two sixes in the over...
Hetmyer gets too eager on the slog and ends up mistiming it

How many times have we seen this with him....and he knows it....he said he is working on that....He lapsed

IF he is trying to think it out...I have time for him.

cant see a screen so not sure how he lost his wicket but sure...

Awareness is key..and a good step.

I know...I know....I am just so disappointed....and he was dropped the over before....

this is why I am calling it a lapse....because he said he is working on it

Hit a boundary then give catching practice .

WIForever 2019-12-11 16:42:26

Ball there to hit and he in the dugout.
Top class players capitalize.

Narper 2019-12-15 16:59:40

We saw it today..Never got carried away after boundaries....and we saw many times taking the single after boundaries.

Hety back on track
