HEADLINE: Gayle has no immediate plans for retirement

CaribbeanCricket.com 2020-01-01 14:27:14

With no planned retirement date set as yet, 40 year old Jamaica and West Indies opener Chris Gayle says he still has a lot left in the tank despite his struggles in 2019. The self-proclaimed "Universe Boss" is planning to prove his doubters wrong in 2020. Gayle has not represented the West Indies since averaging just 29 runs against India in the home series in August.

Despite the highs and lows throughout the year, Gayle is grateful for what he achieved in 2019 and has promised a productive 2020, especially in the T20 format. Gayle was speaking at the "Treat of the Century" which he held at the Lucas Cricket Ground where he was joined by Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Sports Minister Olivia "Babsy" Grange.

What's the point in bringing back a 40 year old?

Invest in King, Ambris, Hemraj or Lewis as the second opener.. Hope done tek one opening spot already

A man should continue his work as long as he enjoys doing so; if he can make a contribution to team.

Is not like he needs time to go and travel.

There was an English Test player who hit that 60 mark, although not in Tests.

Was it Graveney or Cowdrey?

Gayle wants to play in the T20 World Cup...

I blame the WICB for these kinda crap. Cricket body is not about the game alone. It also includes proper mental preparation for folks to play and transition out of cricket, especially ones who been there for a long run.

Another Tigga case coming up of being unceremoniously dumped into oblivion.

Gayle is about Gayle- that’s just how it is.
Like Bravo, if he is good enough, he will make the side if Simmo and Polly happy

I don’t see what the almighty fuss is about about what the guys choose for their careers

Larr Pullo 2020-01-02 16:22:52

Next, Gayle will conquer T1!!

Ewart 2020-01-02 16:56:16

There are so many opportunities out there for cricket beyond West Indies teams. Gayle will not have a problem playing.

It's all about the WC money, nothing else.

The selectors brought back Russell for the ODI WC 2019 in England, even though they knew he wasn't fit, and he was coming back after an injury. How that experiment worked out?

Walco 2020-01-02 23:34:38

In reply to TheTrail

Russell was not coming back from an injury before the WC. He was injured and needed surgery and hid it from the selectors until things from ridiculous to absurd.

Dwayne Bravo coming back does not surprise me one iota. He adds nothing to WI cricket, zero, nothing, zilch. All he'll be doing is taking a young cricketer's position, like Keemo Paul, McCoy and others.

May I remind you this is the same Skerritt CWI who stated that they are on the right track in their rebuilding program. How the hell are you going to rebuild a team with Dwayne Bravo?

Look, Lloyd, Viv, Richardson, Greenidge, and Dujon retired and never looked back because they had nothing else to prove in their illustrious careers.

Haynes and Lara retired, well let me rephrase that, Haynes was given a raw deal by the WICB and Samuels run out Lara at Kensington Oval.

And to rub salt into Lara's wounds, it has been alleged that Samuel's response to the Lara run out is: "he should get over it." Sounds familiar today?

Be careful what you wish for... We all know what happened to Samuels prior to the World Cup of 2007 at Kensington Oval.

At least Lara does not have a blemish to his illustrious cricketing career.
