CaribbeanCricket.com 2020-01-03 15:02:52

BRIDGETOWN – A superb display of power-hitting by Barbados Pride all-rounder Roshon Primus almost took Wanderers Club to a remarkable victory over touring Ireland in a one-day warm-up match here Thursday.

The strongly-built 24-year-old blasted seven huge sixes and seven fours in a scintillating 83 off 36 balls as the home team came up 45 runs short of their target of 339 at the Dayrell’s Road ground.

Primus, a member of the Barbados Tridents franchise which won the Caribbean Premier League last year, entered with Wanderers on 165 for four in the 37th over and immediately went into over-drive in a superb solo effort.

The right-hander raced to his half-century off 25 balls with five fours and four sixes, reaching the landmark with a thunderous cover-driven boundary off seamer Barry McCarthy. While he was at the crease Wanderers added 114 runs in 10 overs to threaten the target and put the Irish under severe pressure.

“I’m not someone who comes to the stadium wanting to entertain people hitting the ball in the air. I want to get the job done,” Kohli told broadcaster Star Sports after India won the series opener in Hyderabad by six wickets.

All that power-hitting and still couldn't get the job done. Enough said about our brainless cricket.

Context is important. When Primus came into bat there was only one way for WCC to win...BLITZKRIEG. The man scored at over 2 runs per ball and still WCC couldn't make it. Do you think that if he batted like Kohli and scored at a run a ball or more WCC would have won? Kohli could not bat how he normally bats and won it form there...context

I remember listening to some oldtimers using this phrase: "Almost goal doesn't count." smile

The fact that you put Kohli and context in the same sentence confirms what i already suspected about you smile smile

And by the way - speaking of context, it wasn't a T20 game, you do understand at least that, i presume? Now go and take a look at where we are in rankings vs where India and Virat are in rankings and get back to me on "context" wink wink

I watched most of the match, it was not close for anyone to say Almost.
Chasing a target of 339, and you are less than eighty, after 20 overs, or you need 16 rpo in the last PP, cannot be Almost.
It was practice batting for Kraigg and Moseley, they played a different format, as what was required to win.
But seeing the game at a local ground, took me down memory lane.
Young Reifer look so good

you are a clown, you really has to be a clown!!!

you tell me and then go ask kohli how the hell the two of you together will score 174 runs from 78 deliveries if you plan on not hitting the ball in the air!!

where do you find these stupid arguments / comparisons from, bring it out in the open here and not feel embarrassed?

kohli knew so much about batting and he is the god and the ultimate authority on batting - as you seem to think - then the entire indian team should be scrapped with all the hitters they have who put the ball in the air just like everyone else playing limited over format cricket. how dare they not follow the god!!

not only that, how come england and new zealand played the last final and not india and england/new zealand if the god of batting himself was there in england last summer?

the god played in 233 odis and batted 197 times. he was dismissed caught 94 times [48%] of total dismissals. he was caught behind another 45 times [23%]of total dismissals so, you and kohli can peddle the farce that he doesn't hit the ball in the air to those who never pay attention to what is going on around them.

I tuned in late when Moseley and Reifer were batting.
They both look promising.

Primus could switch gears when he wants to, some clean hitting there.

Ireland bowled well to restrict them from pushing on.

Primus looks like he drank plenty mutton soup. With fisherman dumplings.
