Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Ricky Skerritt has hit back at his critics for what he says is a misinterpretation of his comments concerning the hiring of overseas coaches after recent appointments to the West Indies coaching set-up.

Pundits around the region have questioned the president’s integrity, arguing that the Kittitian has gone back on his promise to focus on providing opportunities for local coaches after Skerritt’s administration brought in Australian coaching education manager Chris Barbazon, Indian batting coach Monty Desai, and Zimbabwean fielding coach Trevor Penney, who has replaced Guyanese Rayon Griffith.

However, Skerritt was quick to point out that he did not say he would exclusively hire West Indians while noting that a lack of expertise in the region left CWI with little option but to look externally for qualified coaches to fill the positions.

Every West Indian knew this has always been the case and that is why people are calling you out for even referring to a WI first policy.......

Ricardo have the face of a fool im not surprised. Simmons and the horse pollard coach and captain go figure. With all the great past players around skilled at batting and bowling he picked these two screw face cow swiping pelters. Who don't have ten batting 100s combined. cool

That means hitman Skerrit only fulfilling promises that got him the job. Now that all promises have been kept he is now free to do the same as before.

OMG!! OMG!! I had to take some time to process what this man asserted. Did Skerritt say CWI could not find ANYONE with the expertise in the whole Caribbean to be bowling or fielding coach??? For god's sake WI cricketers were ahead of their time for decades as marvelous fielders - in fact teams modeled their practices after us at one point - yet we hire a foreigner to coach our players! I think its time concerned citizens come together to demand reasonable accountability from this man. I was very hopeful for this man but I am now flabbergasted!!!

Now that is has been revealed that the foreigner, Trevor Penney, has been hired as 'white ball fielding coach" is one, therefore to assume that there is also a separate, "red-ball fielding coach"?

Further, is fielding in "white ball cricket" so technical and unique that it would demand its own dedicated expert?

And last, how is fielding in 'white - ball cricket" different from its "red-ball" counterpart?
