good against spin ? i beg to differ if being good means being productive

i noted at least 10 deliveries that should have counted for runs that he just blocked

more like encouragement. he is playing at home is he not?

therefore he should know every crack in the pitch to blunt the bim attack and as is his wont attack the Bim bowling

Dukes 2020-03-13 13:58:43

In reply to doosra

TRUE,but he looks much better against spin that the quick stuff and that is not good for an opening batsman

i think the same with Hope and Dowrich

Bajan batters better at spin than pace is a worry big grin

After I read the above my first instinct was that Hetty has played very little cricket at Providence,so I checked it out.

This current innings is only his 17th in first class cricket at the ground. He has only played 2 one-day innings at this ground, both for the West Indies, since he has never played a 50 over match for Guyana at that ground.
He has played 13, T20 innings on the ground.
All this means that these youngsters rarely play any signifiant cricket at home and yet we expect them to perform miracles in International cricket abroad.

Everything is relative my friend.Kraigg could play Permaul from now till Sunday.

seaegg99 2020-03-13 14:53:24

Spin bowling have dominated the number of overs bowl in the regional game for years now. Fast bowling now get 8 - 10 overs on many a day in our cricket.

Problem is our spinners are mediocre and getting better against them is nothing. On the international stage that means nothing.

Indian pacers made fools of our top order because we are not prepared by batting many overs against good fast bowling. Seems like everyone learns something except the regional players.

but you bajans continue to produce good fast bowlers

why is it that your batters are not developing the skill

My concern was strictly semantical only because KB in his best form and at his most competent never "looks good" smile

That's my point. The fast bowlers aren't bowling to test them enough. Seems like they playing friendly cricket these days. No one is challenging them to attack the batsmen.

Spinners do the same thing in the local competitions. Spinners dominate the overs each and every year. See how bad the teams in the region bat against fast bowling. Guys feet like they wearing cement boots and bats hanging.

These fellows have no clue how to use the crease. They all so technically deficient.

You full of shoite, which batsman from Guyana have the skill of a batsman?

Oilah 2020-03-13 20:52:28

Roach and Holder are good test bowlers and would give all regional bats a good test. Guyana struggled today but this is good for our cricket.

tc1 2020-03-13 20:53:38

Jaguar behaving like their playing village cricket.

Not sure you intended to make what is a really poignant statement, but it is indeed very disturbing. When we consider our top west indian cricketers, there is not one of them that I would say is "comfortable" against pace relative to their competence against spin. For years the Bajans were the best at playing pace bowlers, though other territories had their Roy Fredericks', their Herbert Changs and their Richie Richardsons. Now not a man. The last test cricketer who had the skillsets to cope with the fast rising ball was Shiv Chanderpaul. The last white ball cricketer to be more at ease with real pace was Dwayne Smith. The likes of Shai Hope and Roston Chase are internationally very competent against spin but clearly struggle with the rising ball. Maybe Evan Lewis stands out today as being more adept at playing pace, yet his lack of technique will often expose him.

For those calling for Kraigg's head, he will continue to be our no.1 opener if only because he has the temperament to be prepared to look bad in order to survive.

Lets hear from the Doc.

I will answer you by referring to an incident in 1966 at the Mecca

The Late,Great Berkeley Gaskin was the Manager of the then British Guiana team playing in Barbados. Before the match he boasted to Garry and everyone within earshot that B.G had an outstanding young 22 year old batsman who was going to do great things.
True to form Garry got this wonder boy out for a duck then teased Berkeley about it. Berkeley, never one to be lost for words then quipped that these things happen but there is a second innings.Of course in the second innings Berkeley's wonder boy got a century and followed that up with 194 at Sabina Park and by the following year had a tremendous start to his test career.
No prizes for guessing who that 22 year old wonder boy is.

Nuff similarities.
I remember circa 1972 nuff man seh that Clive is a VOOPER and cyan bat. They felt that the great Maurice Linton Churchill, Charles Allan,Alvin Isaac and Lawrence George were all better batsmen and that Clive days done. Then LFSB stepped in and the rest as they say is HISTORY. AHHH-how quickly they forget. Those who do not know history are.................
