Ganga: We did justice to our talents

TT RED Force announced themselves to the world of T20 cricket in the late 2000s, when they finished runners-up to Guyana in the 2006 Stanford 20/20 tournament in Antigua, and followed up with a nine-wicket victory in the 2008 final.

As regional champs, the Red Force competed in the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 tournament (2009) in India, but they were beaten by New South Wales of Australia, by 41 runs, in the title decider.

That era saw TT dominate regional T20 cricket, as they claimed a hat-trick of titles (2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13) before the West Indies Cricket Board (now Cricket West Indies) introduced the Caribbean Premier League in 2013.

I agree with this totally. No one gave us a chance going into the tournament. not even after we beat somerset. TYhen we beat the ipl winners deccan chargers on their home ground and never looked back. And the total against deccan was modest. Bravo bowled a magnificent death over and that was it. Also, the acceleration in the power play really shook the opposing teams. Some of our power play scores for that tournament would have been considered supernormal up in those days. Even when we scored 200+ vs diamond eagles was a rare score in 2009.

TT could have beaten any international world team in that era. Reminds me when a full Barbados first class team in the 70’s, they were stronger than many of the international test teams back then.

They had defeated India in 1974 or 75 and I believe Pakistan in 77 got beat as well

While Ganga might think that the T&T 20/20 team did justice to their talent,I doubt he can say that the T&T players of his time (including himself) did justice to their ability in terms of test cricket

big grin

The article and topic was very specific to T-20 IN THE early days. It never cease to amaze me how some people cannot understand topic and context
