Updated case list across the Caribbean today (ongoing)
In reply to Tryangle
Thought it doesnt survive in hot climate!
Haiti still most impressive. Look at their population size versus number of cases
In reply to problemjay
Isn't obvious why their cases are so low?
See if you can figure it out nah,Sudan etc too..
In reply to bravos
No i want you to tell me. Any argument about they not having as much arrivals as other Caribbean countries is weak. Because they have managed to still get cases and also contained them thus far. So i want YOU to tell me. Dont run for help
In reply to problemjay
Haiti has done a good job so far managing any spread of the few cases dem receive from foreign
how many are being tested?
In reply to jacksparrow
If not enough then eventually we will get a sudden wave of alot of people showing symptoms who should have been tested. So time will tell
901 deaths.....from 45 just 12 days ago or so... increasing exponentially.
Sorry wrong thread... US numbers.
In reply to Tryangle
Dominican Republic badly affected.
Bermuda just went up 1, now at 7
In reply to Tryangle
Deaths or cases?
In reply to Drapsey
Cases... as far as I know in the Caribbean (and extended) region there's hasnt been a crazy number of deaths...
In reply to Tryangle
Thanks.
The chart I have shows 10 deaths in DR, 2 in PR and 1 each in Guadeloupe, Martinique, PR, Jamaica, Cayman and Curacao
8 new cases today here, weve shot up to 15 total. dang.
Barbados up to 26. The curve is shooting up
In reply to Tryangle
Our PM just said 24 with 1 pending
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Apologies my source may have misquoted then
In reply to Tryangle
I don't know which is accurate more up to date

The next two weeks will be frightening.
The technique to avoid having infections is keeping travelers out of countries in the Caribbean or any country that does not have the virus.
In reply to Chrissy
Yes next two weeks going to be very critical. I expect a lot more cases in the Caribbean due to people just passing it on to co workers and family but hopefully we see no or very few deaths
Just read Puerto Rico had its third corona death
Trinidad just confirmed 2nd death
In reply to Chrissy
Hard to keep track of each place but some places may be already enacting curfews. Will be interesting to see how each island deals with things.
Here we had rumours going around that grocery stores, pharmacies, etc would be shutting down as of this evening - the Premier went to social media to put that rumour to rest.
As of today we have 1196 total cases in the region, 140 new cases today, 31 total deaths and 12 new deaths (most in DR).
Of new cases, 93 in DR, 12 in PR, 13 in Cuba, 8 in Bermuda, 6 in Barbados, 4 in Montserrat, 1 in T&T.
Every country has at least one confirmed case.
DR and Haiti could be decimated after this is done. If it's ever done!

Here is a tracker specifically for the Caribbean

Pretty slick map, wonder what engine's behind it. Weird that there's no PR (among others) reflection.
Looking up the creator, maybe just some data that needs to be thrown in. But still a very slick map there, props due.
On the creator's page, there's a retweet of an interesting site:
https://covid19caribtracker.com/
Looks good.
In reply to VIX
Would be a massive reversal if Haiti decides to ban travelers from the DR.
In reply to Tryangle
Yes came upon it on twitter. The developer is from St. Vincent. She''s working on improving it. It's great though
Cuba confirms their second death, Trinidad confirms our third death
Here is a tracker specifically for the Caribbean
this is neat and nice. more caribbean people need to unleash their creativity
We're up to 30 in Jamaica
In reply to Real-cricket
Cool....but what happened to the usvi and Puerto Rico?
In reply to Chrissy
5 more announced in Bermuda, total now 22.
We got our share of self-centered idjits, unfortunately.
Make that 32
In reply to Tryangle
Dominican Republic - 719 cases and 28 deaths.
They lead the field by a country mile...the Liverpool of Caribbean coronavirus cases.
In reply to mikesiva
true it bad there in DR now but I still consider their population size and remember dem a big tourist destination so think about how many infected tourist came in before dem take it seriously. hopefully dem can manage the spread
In reply to TriniStar
bim now at 33
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Up from 26?
In reply to mikesiva
Yup
19 imported
11 through contact tracing
In reply to VIX
Haiti's social problems meant that even cruise ships have been avoiding them.
They may escape this one. DR has it bad already
In reply to Headley
think they already did that. They closed the borders over a week ago.
Dem not testing in Jamaica?
Some Yardies mussi a hide indoors with di 'rona fearing is licks if dem sneeze in public.
Well look chubble now . China and T&T Link Text
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
At least Jamaica and Barbados doing contact tracing.
That's not happening in the UK.
Once someone's diagnosed with coronavirus no attempt is made to find out who that person has been in contact with.
Two of my wife's work colleagues have been diagnosed with coronavirus and in each case the doctor told them to stay home and that was the end of the story. No contact tracing.

The curfew will end at 6 am on April 8
Grenada will have a 24 hour curfew for a week
In reply to Chrissy
I don't get the overnight curfew....is it easier to stumble into the virus unaware at night?
In reply to Chrissy
Bermuda enacted a 8pm to 6am curfew, a couple people got arrested (I imagine they got stuck at their significant other's place and tried to beat the time), a couple idiots broke into a restaurant and swiped the liquor only to be caught in a public park in the early morning.
I think Cayman is also doing the curfew thing.
Barbados's curfew starts at 8pm but can't recall when it ends in the morning.

by end of this week we will realize that the Caribbean is overreacting a bit.
Social distancing, good hygiene...overall habit improvement is sufficient...and oh..stay way from the old people for a while..
In reply to DAVE400
Does the Caribbean etc, by default, have no choice but to overreact? We're collectively dependent on the outside for assistance when it comes to resources, testing kits, etc? We would be low on the totem pole when it comes to global relief, I'd imagine
In reply to mikesiva
Total cases - New deaths
Martinique 128 - 2 new death (3 total)
Guyana 12 - 1 new death (3 total)
In some.of these islands they are starting to have recoveries. So maybe we could mention that stat as well. I believe in Cuba and Jamaica there have been recoveries and in Trinidad one confirmed case has recovered as well
In reply to problemjay
Yes, I agree with that. Also, track relapses and percentages. A certain percentage of the recovered end up back in the ICU or dead. It's all relative but still good to know.
I think ultimately, for me, I would like to know when the US government will lift restrictions and start opening businesses back up. What particular set of indicators will trigger this and what percentages are they looking at?

4 new cases in St. Lucia with some evidence of community spread
2 more new ones in Trinidad taking the tally to 87
In reply to problemjay
Good point
Guyana moves from 8 to 12 with one additional death
Trinidad moves up by two to 89 and recorded its 4th death. Worryingly one of the two new cases has no travel history and wasn't in contact with anyone with a travel history

For such a small island, the Dutch/French territory of Sint Martin/St Martin have alarmingly high figures....
On BBC news: "Barbados and Haiti have reported their first deaths from coronavirus. The Barbadian health ministry said an 81-year-old man who died had returned from a trip to the United Kingdom on 22 March. The man who died in Haiti was 55 years old and had underlying health conditions."
In reply to mikesiva
would really be useful to see how man death are a direct result of community spread and not travel related...but that would be a fairly difficult undertaking...I suspect that the deaths related to community spread is low but I have no proof at this time..
Bermuda just announced its first two deaths
In reply to mikesiva
69 cases in st martin with 8 deaths is alarming indeed. This is a very tiny island in the Leeward Is. I am surprised that we havent been hearing more about this.
Guyana 31C 4 dead
8 currently in the ICU with one of them listed as critical
St martin/St maarten is 87 sq miles with a population of 80 000.
Its astonishing that it has recorded more cases and deaths than Jamaica - pop 2.5 million
In reply to Benjie
Are you taking into account how many people are being tested between both countries?
But yes still an eye opener
Caribbean region in general still doing ALOT better than most areas in the world despite our smaller population.

I wonder whats the real figure in Haiti...
In reply to VIX
Haiti may have been spared because social unrest led to flight cancellations way earlier than most other places around these parts. Further the cruise ships weren't going there either for the same reason.

Trinidad and Tobago no new confirmed cased in last two days. We hope this means we have now curved and put the peak of the spread behind us
In reply to TriniStar
In reply to Benjie
Are you taking into account how many people are being tested between both countries?
The above is no longer of concern then?
In reply to JahJah
I will always happy when the level of testing my country was doing compared to other Caribbean nations. When I made that comment the Caribbean was lagging behind Trinidad.
But your interest in T&T always keep us amused
Jah Jah you mad T&T have no new confirmed cases in two days? yuh little bad mind fool!
In reply to TriniStar
You exposed yourself. Simple as that. As far as I saw BIM was way ahead but you here lying. Right now BIM has nearly 3.5K per million. TnT is 900ish per. Jamaica 500ish per.
BIM was lagging behind? Stop chat fart.
Now tell us what the criteria is for being eligible for a test. All now you nor that other idiot has answered that.
In reply to JahJah
Nah I think you exposed your true agenda with your response. Most of the Caribbean were not testing in large amounts. only in the last week they picked up the rate of testing.
You want to have a discussion about criteria? go find the information
In reply to problemjay
I could careless. I only care to not see Jamaica's death per million grow.
From the outset all you idiots cared about is who dies less to boast about how superior and advanced a system is.
But look how Jah Jah fighting up in the thread because T&T have no new cases, he came out quick after that TriniStar comment
Have been saying this fella is TRINI -TRAUMATISED
In reply to TriniStar
So tell me, why is BIM sitting at nearly 3.5K per million when others can't even reach 1K, yet you were complaining 'others' not testing?
Cayman has over 10K in testing per million.
Aruba 12K
St Lucia 1.8K
You are very focused on the statistic of Bim but you quoted me on a post that said we should pay attention of the testing being done by most of the Caribbean during a time when the rates of testing was nothing close to what it is now.
Like I said you exposed yourself showing your intended agenda
Different islands were shipped thousands more testing kits in the previous week. Know the facts then come to argue.
In reply to TriniStar
What was BIM's rate at the time of your post? What was Cayman's?
And can you answer the simple question you are trying to sidestep? No need to avoid it. Your motive when you made that post was already revealed! So again I ask - what makes a test necessary?
You complained that others weren't testing when Benjie highlighted Jamaica's low case count.
.
let us remember this is the comment by TriniStar that got Jah Jah hot and sweaty
Ah tell allyuh when that man see ah Trini flag in Toronto he most likely does run to bed and curl himself to sleep in tears
St Kitts - nearly 4.5K tests per million
So again, what is the criteria for people getting tested?
Dominica - 4.7K tests per million

In reply to JahJah
that is a real mess and people reluctant to report the people they have contacted.
So TnT were way ahead, in testing, of BIM, Cayman, Dominica et al at the time of TranniStar's post, but now lag way behind (I mean 10K, 4.7K, 3.5K vs less than 1K) them...yet he is no longer talking about lack of testing?
That was quite the reversal!

Somehow I have to say our English speaking Caribbean people are doing well to good,40 deaths in a population of about nine million people. There's always room for improvement but maybe our infrastructure is not up to standards of Europe and USA but look at them.

In reply to problemjay
here

In the video i saw on soca music tv fb page, the national security minister gave the impression that Barbados had also quarantine them, so my understanding is TnT should know if we are receiving any positive patients. We should still do our testing of course

Yes, the fact that we're talking about cases in the English-speaking Caribbean, while in Europe the discussion is around death tolls, says it all. There's been an upsurge in British Jamaicans trying to secure Jamaican passports during the carnage in the UK. But the High Commission is closed, like so many services in England now during this lockdown.

Glad to hear you're okay. Guys, please check in from time to time, so we can know you're all right.
With regards to the UK, the stats they post are deaths in hospital only, so the number of deaths are vastly understated. Deaths in care homes and at home are not included in that figure, so the overall total of deaths could be much higher. The government statistical body just realised data for up to April 10, and that was an additional 1,000 deaths in care homes and another 500 deaths at home. When they finally get up to date, we may well see over 40k deaths.
So, the Caribbean picture is much better, in contrast...to date!

Next week T&T will begin to open up from the lockdown. There has been a task force put together by the Government for defining what this opening up period will look like. More details to come from the Prime Minister this weekend
.
See it here, Trinidad and Tobago six phases Link Text
From Monday, May 11, food establishments and restaurants would be allowed to open and provide food services across the country but no in-service dining will be allowed. Itinerant and non-itinerant services can allow curbside pick-up, drive-through and walk-in pick-up. It must end at 8 pm. All employees of food outlets can now go to work and food purchased in a normal way. The expectation is that those doing street food will do so the highest level of hygiene.
Members of the public will be allowed to engage in restricted outdoor activities. This will exclude team or contact sports activities or any activity that require gatherings. You can come out to walk, hike etc, but dont congregate in groups of more than 5 and keep 6 feet away. No hugging, no hand-shaking, no kissing.
Hardwares, electrical stores to open all day to 8 am-4 pm; groceries to continue 8 am-6 pm.
Approval for TCL, WITCO, Nu Iron to resume operations from Monday. The main reason is for exports to the regional market.
We still want a level of stay at home. If you are non-essential, stay at home.
Once you leave home to go outside. wear a face covering. each and every one of us must behave as though we are carrying the virus.
Phase 2: May 24 to June 6 (if the numbers remain good)
The manufacturing sector can open back on May 24.
Public-sector construction will be restarted.
Continuation of 50% capacity for public transportation taxis and maxis.
Phase 3: June 7 to June 20 (if the numbers remain good)
All public service will come back out to work with elements of flexitime where possible. May also consider alternate days of work.
Private sector construction will be allowed.
Increase capacity of maxis and taxis to 75%.
Phase 4: To be determined
Reopening of malls & beaches.
Phase 5: To be determined
Reopening of cinemas.
Phase 6: To be determined
Reopening of borders. With regards people wanting to leave, the prime minister said the country is not a prison but Minister of National Security Stuart Young also announced that they are looking at cases in which people want to leave, including farm workers in Canada and will deal with each case as it comes, with the care that citizens are guarded against venturing to places where they themselves can be placed in danger of the virus.
The opening of other commercial businesses other than those mentioned above, will be determined at a later date.
This is not a getaway card, the prime minister said.
He told the news conference that it was easier for him to make the decisions to close down the non-essential services than it was is to make the decisions he made Saturday.
Because I am a little nervous now about opening up because we have seen what has happened elsewhere, he said.
He reminded the country that we are not virus free adding that there is no country in the world that has declared itself virus-free.
That means we have to keep our guard up as we now take the risk of going out, the prime minister said.

8515 tests for Jamaica. 322 in last 24 hrs. Updated daily. 520 cases=127 recoveries. Most cases asymptomatic. Most cases hqave not needed hospitalisation. 400+ in isolation and others in quarantine. Latest 3 cases are Jamaicans returning from USA on May 13.
Daily reports of new cases, number of hospitalisations, number of samples tested, number of recoveries, number of people in isolation, quarantine and transitional facilities and total samples tested.
Data on imported cases, local transmission and whether or not cases are contacts of confirmed cases, how many cases are not epidemiologically linked and number under investuagtion. Daily reports.

No, I'm afraid I don't. However, on domestic BBC News yesterday, they reported that the Caribbean (including Cuba and the English-speaking West Indies) have done a good job of handling coronavirus so far. They discussed how contact tracing was taking place, and airports were closed, while they have not gone down that route in the UK. They spoke to Joy St John of Caribbean Public Health, who was very cautious in her response, and said vigilance was key, because opening up meant the possibility of a resurgence. They visited Cuba, and praised their response.

No new numbers in JA - many have recovered
Yes, 145 recoveries now. I noticed that recoveries seemed stuck at 29 for a while but as it got hotter here recoveries surged. Coincidence? Sheer luck because most have been young and asymptomatic? Most were mild cases? This virus has behaved very mysteriously with major differences from place to place? Or is it that when it gets away, hospital systems become overwhelmed so HUGE numbers of deaths? Contact tracing, isolation and quarantine make a difference? All of the above?
Up to 529. Six of those returning from Uk plus 3 local. One of those is linked to Alorica as a contact. Interesting how UK has contributed to Ja's imported cases. The first case was from UK. 9021 samples now have been tested.Active cases 365
one of T&T's coast guard bases went under quarantine and lockdown starting today. Some Venezuelans tried to enter T&T illegally and the coast guard apprehend them but reports say some of the officers were not wearing the PPE. So if the Venes have Covid then good chance the Coast guard officers may have it. So this could lead in an increase in T&T cases. We will to see what happens

Six of the nine were repatriated from Britain and were employees of a cruise ship.

Oh thanks so that means 174 recoveries so that means 345 active cases. Chrissy I know it's speculation but what do you think accounts for these recoveries and the increasing pace of recoveries?
In reply to michaelmax and Chrissy
Good questions...the UK seems to be exporting coronavirus cases now. There's no state quarantine in the UK, the airports are still open, and contact tracing still hasn't started yet! That seems to be the key differences between how badly the UK has handled this, and how well Cuba and the English-speaking Caribbean have approached coronavirus to date. You can only get accepted for a test in the UK if you display serious symptoms. Hence, why so many asymptomatic West Indians in Britain are walking around, not knowing they have coronavirus, and then getting on a flight to the Caribbean, etc. I went to the supermarket this morning, as I do once a week, and it's a scary experience, because so many Brits there don't take precautions, despite the high death toll.

Up to 564 now over last two days with 8 new cases today with 7 of those imported from returning Jamaicans. Testing expanded to infirmaries and care homes now with 1 positive o date. I expect that as we test more of the Jamaicans returning from cruise ships the imported cases will rise. The rate of increase in local cases has slowed since Alorica. Time will tell if that trend continues.

Think everybody is suffering from lockdown fatigue. It seems that community spread has been limited. Lets hope it stays that way. Look like the man spread it in Region 1.. Since he died they found 6 other positive cases in the region.
2 family member and 4 persons from the local hosptial, including a doctor and medex..according to one of the relative they got 11 more family members in quarantine waiting to be tested.
Only Regions two out of the ten regions without a confirmed case so far.

Hispaniola continues to be the worst case scenario. Guyana's neighbours have alarmingly high numbers. A lot of Jamaica's cases are tourists. In addition to Bermuda, Barbados, Montserrat and Sint Maarten now have no active cases. For now, there's no coronavirus in St Vincent, Grenada and Dominica.
2 positives yesterday, 1 more today, each from arriving flights from the US (Atlanta). I believe the first two were returning residents (who I think weren't required to test before boarding the flight).
Hope the other islands that have 'opened back up' have more encouraging results.

We have a new entry in the Caribbean Netherlands. The DR continues to fly off the charts, while Suriname's figures are rising at an alarming rate. Most of Jamaica's cases are American tourists arriving in the island.
In reply to mikesiva
Don't you think that if that is true it is very TRUMPIAN of the Jamaican Government???
In reply to Dukes
Ok tbf that is Mike's interpretation. The Jamaican reports report imported cases, import related and community transmission separately. TMJamaica has recently re-opened borders to Jamaicans overseas and tourists. There was word(rumours) of some 40 tourists testing positive. The MOH to date has reported less than 10 tourists who have since left. Jamaica has now down just shy of 31,000 tests.
The number of positive cases out of the 700+ tests in the previous twenty- four hours is 2.5% and the overall tests conducted and no of positives is around the same. There were 2 reported recoveries yesterday so active confirmed cases stand at 58 with two moderately ill patients. The major concern is the huge backlog which they claim will be cleared by month end.
In reply to Dukes
And there are aspects of Andrew which are Trumpian. Just in this case Mike is drawing conclusions from the data and word on the streets.

Maybe I might've jumped the gun in assuming their tourists...they could be Jamaicans coming home from the US too.
Jamaica recorded 19 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours, pushing the number of confirmed cases to 809.
Of the new cases, 13 were imported from the United States, five were contacts of confirmed cases and one is under investigation, the Ministry of Health and Wellness reported a short while ago.
Either way be wary of anyone coming from the US
In reply to mikesiva
68 active cases as some of those were indeed tourists since they have "repatriated" from the article. But yes the majority of the increases have been imported or import related. Now let the government explain why the borders were re-opened to tourists.
In reply to michaelmax
All Jamaican leaders and politicians are corrupt. Colour me shocked. Look how long PNP was in power with pretty much the same shite taking place. Bandooloo is a way of life there.
Now, tell us about the sweet virtues of Portia "Mi look like ah losah to you?" Simpson-Miller. She was oodles of fun to listen to and watch...much like Mr 'amonimous'.
She was the original stable genius.
In reply to JahJah
Portia had her flaws and did not choose wisely some of her closest advisors. However she was no FOOL. She NEVER embarrassed Jamaica on the international stage. She didn't use the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to lobby the US State Department to protect a drug don. She didn't order soldiers to shoot up Keith Clarke's house. She wasn't forced to resign by external forces. She didn't go hunting in South America studiously avoiding the US.
She was a very successful Labour Minister.NIF developed under her watch. She was a good tourism minister though the snobs in the industry kept on hounding her When she lost in 2007, the economy for 2006/2007 grew at 3.2%. When she returned in 2012 with a bankrupt economy and the JLP IMF agreement in tatters and with the multilaterals ready to let the country collapse, she engaged the Congressional Black Caucus through Maxine Waters. The CBC then went directly to then IMF Chief Christine Lagarde to engage. Ms. Lagarde herself said this. When she left office in 2016- growth which was absent from 2007-2011 had returned such that Andrew had gone from " bitter medicine" to prosperity and 5in4. Now the economy is in decline again and this began PRIOR to the pandemic.
Portia was able to host President Obama rather than the Secretary Clinton who never left Norman Manley airport. All in all she was a good PM. So critique her flaws but give credit where credit is due. She has surpassed Brogad,Bruce and Seaga.
Its a tough situation for countries where tourism is the economy.
If they keep borders closed, theyre fcuked
If they open the borders to tourists, theyre fcuked
Best they can hope for is open borders carefully and put as many protocols in place so that when tourists test positive, theyre able to quarantine without interacting with the community.
In reply to mikesiva
Are those numbers correct?? A 19.2% mortality rate? Most of the region is averaging way less than that but those numbers are eye opening. Maybe inadequate medical treatment or older population?

Inadequate testing is the obvious reason. It is probably 270-15

Yesterday we decided to head to our favourite spot in Port Royal. Of course the restaurant is open air and the crowd was thin when we got there.
Tables and chairs were sanitized over and over and staff wore masks.
By the time we left it was clear as day that there was absolutely no social distancing taking place.

People are getting very careless - nuff quarantines in some parishes - Clarendon, St Mary and St Thomas.
There has been a rapid increase in cases throughout the Caribbean within the last two weeks but that is expected as countries lift lockdowns and open borders in an attempt to revive their economies. We already know many Caribbean islands depend on tourists (tourism) for a thriving economy
Also in the case of T&T with more people mingling and in close proximity on the streets as a political election campaign comes to an end there has been a sharp increase in Covid cases.

The DR continues to dominate the table, but there have been alarming increases in cases in the Bahamas, Belize and Aruba. Trinidad's cases have doubled in a week, resulting in that country being added to the Bahamas and Aruba in the UK's quarantine list. The countries along the north coast of South America still have high numbers of cases, as do Turks & Caicos and St Martin/Sint Maarten, while the cases in Jamaica are increasing. The BVI joins this frightening list....
70 cases yesterday in Guyana from all regions.
They currently got a backlog of 700+ tests because of an increase in testing.
1 more death last night so it's up to 30 now

How much more can we expect elsewhere?

35 new cases and another death for Guyana

5 out of the 9 persons that died in the last week or so passed away before they got their results.
In reply to problemjay
44 in TnT vs 46 in Jamaica.
You do know a little something called per capita?
Why do you think that 15 deaths in Jamaica is 5 deaths per 1M, and 12 deaths in TnT is 9?
Jamaica is testing at 17K per 1M. TnT 13K.
Right now Jamaica has 788 recovered and 487 active. TnT has 162 recovered and 690 active.
Remember this little dig?

But yes still an eye opener
ding ding! some islands are testing a lot more people than other islands
Any more smileys?? Stop making it a competition. Yu end up getting what you beg fah.
In reply to JahJah
Trinidad needs to deal with Trinidad. We still need to do far more testing. Supposedly we have the set up for 2000 tests per day so let's do that. The last 48 hours were the last times we had over 1000 tests per day in a looong while.

Trinidad and Guyana cases break into four figures, while Jamaica's cases are growing so alarmingly that the UK may add this island to Trinidad on their quarantine list. Scary here in JA

Jamaica's death count is currently just 16 per million. We'll see how that holds up over the next week or so.
That TnT total includes the 7 in one day. They have rocketed past Barbados' 24 per million and are now on 40 per million.
Guyana = 74, Dominican Rep = 184.
According to the latest stats on Soca Music Tv not much has changed in the Caribbean nations who continue to increase cases at a rapid rate. Thankfully most cases result in successful recoveries

TnT positive cases is slowing down. Last week was 80/90 per day but now its around 20 per day. The restrictions are working

I have not been paying much attention.... but how is the death rate 80/90 per day if only 70 people have died from Covid in Trinidad....or did I read that incorrectly?

I meant to say the positive cases not death rate. I will edit
The DR has been a tourist spot for many who have gotten tired of the lockdown in the USA, that's why the numbers might be so high.

If not China, then it will be America. Both countries have their interest to influence the world so it does not matter to me which one. Caribbean countries should not just automatically align themselves with the US. Caribbean countries in return should just do what is best in our own interest and choose which deal benefits us more between the two countries on any issue.

Cases are also going up in Martinique, French Guiana, Trinidad, Guyana, Cuba, Curacao, St Lucia, Bermuda and Guadeloupe.

the current Government regarding its

Perhaps that is due to the fact that his Business in Bequia , the largest

Barbados doing something right. The CDC have it at Level 2.
In Bermuda, active cases have shot up rapidly over the last week or so, mainly from people travelling and some apparent local spread... and government has decided to tackle this with a sledgehammer...
FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR fine for people caught not wearing mask in public spaces (conveniently, except 'exercise', eating or drinking). They've already handed out freaking tickets to people going to grocery stores because they didn't put on a mask immediately after exiting their car.
This is beyond nuts. A cash grab, certainly, when more strict warnings would have been a better first step. Hope you guys wherever you are aren't facing such a crazy prospect.

ONE HUNDRED AND THREE active cases in Bermuda. What the hell.
And we just opened their brand spanky new airport terminal today
Saw a post few days ago on Soca Music Tv facebook page where stores and supermarkets in T&T will be allowed to be opened for 24 hours during the Christmas season. My guess is the government intent is to decrease the usual large crowds for Christmas shopping which can increase covid cases

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the DR continue to have the worst numbers in cases and deaths. There's a huge gap between the DR and rest of the Caribbean. Both cases and deaths continue to rise significantly in Jamaica and Belize. The number of cases are still increasing at a worrying rate in French Guiana, Curacao, Haiti, Trinidad, Guyana, Suriname, Martinique, Aruba, St Martin/Sint Maarten and Cuba. The increase in cases is slowing in Guadeloupe and the Bahamas.

wooh woh woh.....Trindad has not recorded more than 30 cases per day since november. Our graph has been trending downwards since the middle of november. That is because our borders are closed. And there is heavy police presence in crowded areas making sure people keep on their masks and obey the social distancing rules. Which is why we could open restaurants(50% capacity with no serving of alchahol) and soon the return of secondary school students with consequential exams coming up( CAPE and CXC),. The virus is not running away here

Cuba was working on a nasal spray. If you get info on that please post.
Bermuda is in a bit of a quandry now. We had a number of schools including that of one of my son's, go into quarantine. My 5-year-old took 2 separate saliva tests and they came back negative. But other schools have reported cases and the daily new case rate has shot up.
Today, 81 new cases.
Looking like we on the way back to the beginning over here. Indoor gyms, churches, bowling alleys, etc. to close.
Hope things haven't swooped upwards in your neck of the woods, guys.

The DR is way out on its own. The numbers of cases and deaths in Cuba, Guyana, Curacao and Jamaica are increasing alarmingly. The growth in the number of cases in the past fortnight are a concern for French Guiana, the Bahamas, Aruba, Trinidad, St Lucia, Barbados, the Caribbean Netherlands, Antigua, Bermuda, Martinique and Guadeloupe.
