Discarded West Indies left-arm spinner has once again lit a fire under the selectors’ chairs for a recall with an impressive run in the West Indies Championship.

The 30-year-old has taken 50 wickets, equalling his tally from the 2017/2018 season in the eight completed rounds, comfortably ahead of the next two highest wicket takers, Chemar Holder and Akeal Hosein who each have 36 wickets.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors spinner showed that he has regained peak form with a career-best eight for 18 and his best match haul of 15 for 77 against Jamaica Scorpions in the fifth round.

Permaul also holds the best average for any bowler with more than 20 wickets at an astonishing 12.98 and an economy rate of a fraction over two.

rubbish....poormaul should not be within 100m of any test side, including zimbabwe. Like carlos, absolute waste and a political choice in the days of hunte and hillaire

Any player whose game is only suitable for Test cricket would not have much of an international career going forward, so although Permaul deserves consideration for a call-up, I do not see much opportunities for him. Also some of the regional teams batsmen are so poor Permaul numbers might be deceiving.

Spinners will continue to take wickets in the FC because WI batsmen just are not good at playing spin. The hard part is recognizing the truly exceptional spinner from the amid the lot. The answer will always be look for the one that brings that something different

So there is nothing wrong with Permaul according to the sentiments here.The real problem is WI batsmen who can't play spin.

Yet the same non-performing batsmen gets a chance to play test cricket while the performing spinners are not good enough .....
