It is always a difficult task when comparing sportsmen across generations to determine who is the GOAT – The Greatest Of All Time.
But it is always an interesting discourse to have. In this instance, I beg to ask the question: who is Guyana’s greatest batting phoenix to date?
Certainly, numbers don’t lie and it is a key determinant to inform the conclusion of the matter. But how important is the eye test, batsman-ship, swagger and craftiest of some of our greats?
The baseline used to articulate my arguments will be the game’s toughest form – Test cricket – simply because it’s the only format the previous and current generation would have both played in.

Shivnerine Chanderpaul, statistically is undoubtedly the greatest Guyanese batsman of all time. However, let's suppose I had to pick one Guyanese batsman, in his prime, to be on my team. My choice, without hesitation, would be Rohan Kanhai.
Sorry but I would put Lloyd, Kalli and Kanhai ahead of him.
And so begins another thread of mostly pointless opinions against Shiv!
Like it or not, Shiv has been Guyana's most successful Test batsman ever, and the second most successful WI Test batsman ever. So, all yuh suck it up like good sports and learn to give the man his fair due!
Wait ... iz West Indians am talking to ... for us "fair due" means something strange ... and what the hell is "fair" anyway? We'll just make it up as we go along, and try to be convincing by playing annoyed, or vex even ... use words like "insulting", "I put Tom, Dick and Harry in front of him", etc.
Hahahahahaha! West Indians are never boring ... except Shiv ...!
