2022 T20WC - how to group?

Lungidi2017 2021-11-06 23:50:42

SA won 3 games - as Aus and Eng - but still go home.
After the Super 12, top 8 teams should be listed anf QFs Should be played.
#1 vs #8
2 vs 7
3 vs 6
4 vs 5
Then Semis.
T20 WC has so many idiosyncracies - that ejecting teams from Super 12 is too harsh!!
Agree??

Correction, South Africa won four games, and lost only one.

And they go home.

But they did better than many expected. Imho they're a team to watch next year.

How about ejecting 6 or out? cool

The format was bad even before the 4 wins yet out scenario happened.

I think 2024 is poised for a different one, hopefully it’ll be less controversial yet easy to understand with all matches having meaning.

Why wud u want to watch a competition where a team with as little as 2 points out of a possible 10 advances to a knockout round with a chance of winning the competition?

It takes away from the round robin matches if u are a certainty for the knockout phase with less than half of the available points.

As it is,West Indies would still not qualify for the final 8 in a quarter final scenario. The 4 additional teams would have been South Africa,Sri Lanka,India and Afghanistan., all of whom had 4 points or more.

They could reduce the round robin phase and have an expanded knock out phase, such as a double elimination portion. That way you wouldn't lose any matches and at the same time make more matches a high-pressure situation.

Four out of six teams in a group going to a QF doesn't seem to be the way to go. *Maybe* 3 out of 6 with group winners getting byes, but that's not really elegant.
