Why not superimpose crowd noise to the broadcast for boundary hitting, runouts and other wickets? We know how a crowd reacts to these events and have them on tape so it won't be difficult to weave it into the commentary.
As well, we could create a virtual crowd to fill the stadium and make them visibly react to these events. Cricket in an empty stadium will be a dull affair but the right software can fix that.

As well, place speakers around the ground to generate crowd buzz and applause for the approtiate event. The times they are changing and we have to meet the challenge with software and innovation.
I will not challenge the naysayers just put forward my ideas maybe someone influential will run with it.
