West Indies, including 14 frontline players and 11 reserves, are currently in England ahead of the first Test which is scheduled to start early next month.
“I think it [the squad] has a fairly decent balance, but personally speaking, if it's one thing that puzzled me a bit it was the non-inclusion of Pooran,” Bennett told the Jamaica Observer.
Pooran, 24, a left-hand batsman and wicketkeeper, has played in Twenty20 (T20) franchise leagues around the world since he was a teenager.
He is yet to play a Test match, but is a regular for West Indies in T20 and One Day International (ODI) cricket. His record in ODIs is particularly impressive — a 932 runs tally in 25 matches at an average of 49.05. His lone century, a classy 118, came at the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales.

The selectors protecting Shane Dowrich or they like him so much they are protecting him from Covid-19.Not even a "quota" selection,he wasn't even worth that. The Saffies doing OK with QUOTAS.

Does Pooran really want to play test cricket cuz to me he just walks into that team with ease if he wants it. Him and the likes of Brandon King seems different cricketing souls to the norm. Modern cricket thinking?

Pooran did say he wants to play test cricket and he should do that soon,I know the selectors wanted to see players in the 4 day mix,but Pooran is good enough to walk into WI team even just as a batsman. Most of Pooran's innings were very cultured and sensible even when we were in trouble. That innings against England in the WC showed lots of skill, defence and aggression. What more do they want,I seriously think they are protecting Dowrich.Mek dem gwan with dem bad self,as my fren Doughlas would say.

He cannot walk into that team as the wicket-keeper batsman as he is not a better keeper than Dow and Dow continues to improve with each passing series as a batsman.

Lets see how many he does this series. As I said, improves with each series. A hope you not saying, it ok if Poo drops a few.

Have not see Pooran in a first class game keeping wicket but I'm thinking Dowrich cannot be miles better than him. I would say Pooran is closer to Dujon's class than Dowrich to fit into the team pattern.

A blessing in disguise for Pooran - the best batsman in the West Indies by far.
Doesn't he have an IPL contract too?
