The Barron only played the last 6 seasons of his career in County cricket.Richards played practically his entire career in County cricket.
Richards scored 57 centuries playing for Somerset and Glamorgan while the Barron scored 18 centuries for Notts.
Is The Barron Barry Richards?

You shud know is Sobers dey torking bout
Courtney Walsh is but as bowlers go, dem is just work horse and batters fly first class.

Yes Dukes post above was a give away. I still think Barry Richards would have been in the mix unless he is not considered foreign

Allyuh tempting me to talk about Barry Richards, the best opening batsman I have ever seen.
In reply to Dukes
As a youngster in the mid seventies and totally in love with cricket I would ask my father and the older folks who is de best batsman in the world. The reply was Richards and initially I assumed incorrectly dem was talking about Viv

One of the tragedies of Apartheid was the absence of Barry Richards from test cricket. He played 1 season in Australia for South Australia and in 10 matches he scored 1538 runs with 6 centuries and averaged 109.Against Western Australia at Perth he scored 356 runs, including 325* at the end of the first day. When he was out for 356 off 381 balls he had hit 48 fours and 1 six and the score was 551-4.Lillee the young wonder boy who would later bowl out the ROW for 59 (he took 8-29) bowled 18, eight ball overs for 117 runs.It was pure mayhem.
Barry Anderson Richards in County cricket would go out to bat, find it ridiculously easy and get bored or els he would score a ton.He looked forward to playing against the visiting test team and would usually score a 100 and then get out.
I have seen 3 batsmen in my time who were so good, that often they would get bored and would be dismissed. They are Barry and Viv Richards and of course Garry.
Ask Gordon Greenidge about Barry Richards and he probably would tell you that Barry was the best opening batsman.
In reply to Dukes
AKA the man who teach CG Greenidge to bat!

I remember a World Series Cricket match Rest of de world vs Australia and Greenidge Viv and Barry scored tons. I think Barry got a double...licks like peas

My question is why Sobers was not on the list, not why Richards was no 1.but your rationale is accepted

The only two men who I know of who scored 300 runs in a days play are Donald Bradman and Barry Richards. I remember one time when Clive Lloyd scored a particularly rapid double century it was mentioned that Gilbert Jessop once scored 201 in 2 hours . That would suggest there are others who scored 300 in a day.
In reply to Dukes
Cammie Smith scored 300 runs and declared before close of play in a BCA game which usual starts at 1 or 1:30.
In reply to Dukes
Lara when he scored the 501 not out..I think he scored more than 300 on day 4 of that match. He was 111 not out going into day 4.

Heard about this one from a number of reputable sources

null
In reply to Oilah
