Zimbabwe could be headed for political upheaval

Sangfroid 2020-07-17 14:32:59

On June 26, a Joint Operations Command (JOC) collective of security chiefs ordered the government to close the privately-owned Zimbabwe Stock Exchange and halt mobile money transfers, which host nearly all of the country’s commerce.
Basic goods are scarce and the value of the Zimbabwean dollar has continued to tumble, pushing official annual inflation to 785.6% in May and causing real incomes for Zimbabweans to evaporate.

Ah jeez. Busy with a big project over there atm , and don't need stuff like this but the situation in Zimbo has been dire now for a long long time

As long as Mnangagwa feeds the military and the redboots he probably won't be going anywhere soon to be honest.

Seems to me you're paddling against the current. Hope you hedged.

Aye even if he doesn't get overthrown what they usually do is completely close off the border/airports and starve the citizens to get them under control making deals and importing/exporting goods difficult.

Forwarding this article to my one of my black Zimbo mates and see what he thinks of this.

And the common man suffers. The story of Rodney's How Europe Underdeveloped Africa.

Come on, Sangfroid. You are not supposed to bring up stuff like this, man. It makes a huge mess of the "X victim" idea that is revered here.

We can't have that. You hear?

If I said I was sorry, I would be lying big grin And you know what's the saddest part, this worldview is driven into the psyche of the typical Caribbean child, through various art forms and the academy. This resentment culture then filters through to adulthood, with the consequences borne out on this message board; the lack of critical thought and the pedestalisation of victim-hood as virtue. It's a most self-defeating thing.

Yeah I spoke to my bra and he's worried.Portion of his folks pension is invested in those OML funds which have now been unlisted/frozen and all money transfers like EcoCash have now been suspended , so he cannot even wire them some cash so his folks are running hungry at the moment.Borders are closed for civs and there's a curfew atm in South Africa so can't really leave home and drive to them and deliver some relief.

Is there a country richer than Guyana per capita, Guyana has so much wealth and so little people, we should all be sitting on golden toilets and bathing in oil...what happened?

Capitalism happened, its a class problem not a race one, get your mind right

Didn't Mugabe solve Zimbabwe's problems about 50 years ago?

Capitalism happened

Burnham got rid of that parasitic capitalism, man. Everyone had a golden toilet and bathed in oil back then!

It is for reasons like these, I extol the virtues of Pinochet. Sorry to say, but your brother can say goodbye to those investments, more so if they were dollar-denominated. That was some risk to take.

Ah, come on. That cannot be!
