Jofra: facing more racist abuse...

England's Jofra Archer has described sport as "fickle" and revealed he has reported racist abuse on social media since missing the second Test against West Indies.
The fast bowler, 25, was fined for breaching bio-secure protocols while travelling between venues - but is available for Friday's third Test.
"I know what I did was an error of judgement and I have suffered the consequences of that," said Archer. "I haven't committed a crime and I want to start feeling myself again."
"This week has showed me that whatever I do will be a focus of attention," Archer added. "If I sneeze too hard it's going to be headlines.
"To be straight, if I play and don't bowl 90 miles an hour, it's going to be news. If I don't bowl 90 miles per hour for long enough, it's going to be news. If I don't put my left sock on first, it's going to be news. I understand that is the scrutiny of playing at this level and being in that spotlight."
"In the first innings, I hear I am this and that - overrated. Then, the second innings comes, I do well and it's all: 'He's a great player.' That's cricket. Some days are good, some are bad. No-one is going to be amazing all the time. Sometimes I feel it's not a fair world - really and truly.
"And I sense a lot of negativity. I have played eight Test matches. How can someone be overrated that has played just eight games?"

It should be no surprise that the media and the fans are fickle.
But racist abuse is unacceptable. Sadly, it's becoming the norm.
"Some of the abuse I have taken over the past few days on Instagram has been racist and I have decided that enough is enough," Archer said. "Since Wilfried Zaha, the Crystal Palace footballer, was abused by a 12-year-old online I drew a line and I will not allow anything to pass, so I have forwarded on my complaints to the ECB and that will go through the correct process."

I can not believe that Archer is surprised.IF he is, he is naive and not plugged in to reality.

he has to accept the fact he was not born in britain and will never be totally accepted because of that and his skin colour and get over it personally i don't care he is getting what he deserves the bca provided opportunities and invested in him like other other young players like shai hope ,dowrich ,holder and he turned around and played for another country,

Interesting, explain the opportunities and investment. It would appear that Archer made the decision to migrate because of lack of opportunity and investment. The possibility exist that Archer would not be on the world stage today without the decision he took. Perhaps the BCA dropped the ball and ignored a diamond in the rough. Show some suport and respect for the man, after all he is still our brand.

When I was 23 years old I was protesting against Rhodesia and Margaret Thatcher in London!!!!!
I suppose he never heard about Norman Cowans OR CLR JAMES!!!!!
His parents and family did him a disservice if he did not hear about them.

HOLA......Anyone playing sports in England who is non white and who is from a different country or born British but culture and religion differs from the norm will be subjected to abuse, racial and religious taunts...
Its not right but hell it makes a lot of people happy when one is subjected to the taunts I just described.
IT not gonna change...and the tauntee needs to be cool and just fight back with words and actions that can be viewed as exemplary to others..
In most cases its a bunch of silly dumbarses that try to be bullies...remember SKINHEADS...PAKI BASHING ..IRISH BASHING...YUP the Irish had a good share of abuse..
anyway my advice to Archie is to seek out Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid..and Saleh..and get some advice and insight as to how they ARE DEALING with this issue and continue to get the respect of their peers and a great percentage of the nation.
Adios

It is reasonable for him to be surprised at the extent of the racism he faces.
His shoes, his journey.

You were just following the trends at that time. If you weren't leading the march, you were a follower, you were probably there because all the fine chicks at uni with nice asses were marching. Just like Jofra "followed" Chris Jordan to England without fully girding his loins for what he could be in for.

Some black people feel that racism against black people only takes place against uneducated, poor and criminal black people and are therefore SHOCKED when it occurs to them as MiDDLE or UPPER CLASS HIGHLY EDUCATED RICH BLACKS.
Granted I was fortunate to hear stories from my uncle who in the midst of war and famine went to the US in the 1930's to Howard and dealt with racism and poverty and then my mother in the early 1950's also in the US turning up in NYC for her 1st day as a doctor and being told that the cleaners have to go to the back of the ward for the cleaning supplies.
However it is surprising to me that Archer is seemingly of the mindset that his celebrity status inoculates him from racism. He must be in a "bubble" but not from the virus but from reality.

Jofra Archer has the Michael Jackson syndrome. He think him name Peter Pan. The reality of class and racism is rife in the UK. Him never hear Michael Holding take on it?
Maybe he girlfriend tell him different.

TriniD agrees wid you. But TriniD believes dat it is sometimes more nuanced.
For example, new-Immigrant TriniD (who immigrated to attend university) was always educated about racism and always knew it existed. But when TriniD started university, and sat down wid his Caribbean friends, who lived in de US longer dan TriniD, TriniD was surprised by de level or racism, like cops pulling guns and threatening lives at routine traffic stops.
So for TriniD it was not dat racism existed, or that it is bad, but the level of racism, and really the level to which there is no recourse to fight racism. Institutional racism takes getting used tuh.
Joffra grew up in de social media age, so TriniD assumes for Joffra, de swing from love tuh hate is exponential, as social media tends to be, so it must be extremely sobering.

I am surprise that this was not a consideration in his decision making process, England is a very racist place. I might add, he is experiencing racism in its mildest form due to his stardom, that intensity is multiplied ten fold when a black female enters medical school even when she is in the top 1% of her class, she is encouraged to be a nurse.
Their are strong arguments tracing the birthplace of racism to the British Empire, although they tried to erase history it is well documented how the Crown instilled tyrants in British Overseas Territories to bring indigenous people into submission even with deadly abuse. Churchill once said the sun never sets on the British Empire, that is not true today, why?

So he should simply accept the racist abuse and move on and not complain or highlight it? Seriously??
With thinking like that, it's no wonder this planet is full of racists!
We'd probably still be on the sugar plantations if we left things unchallenged!

Still, we need to challenge and educate people. Don't just say that's how things are and accept them.
There is no justification for racial abuse, not in any form or on any platform!

Once ur an outsider in England the British press is going to eat u alive and this plays into the prejudices that most Brits have and no matter what you do this will never go away. The British press also attacks Raheem Sterling and insinuated that he was more interested in bling bling than representing England but the difference is Raheem never cry over it he tough it out, cuz Jamaicans cut from a different cloth.

I believe he is one of Roddy's former students.
Most of I leave the region to make a better life for ourselves and family.
I will be so hypocritical to condemn Jofra, for making the same choice.

How quickly many forget that the ginger haired star boy aka Stokes punched a wanker outside a bar for this kind of abuse not too long ago.
Anything that can be used by weak Lilly livered cowards to abuse so called stars is how they get their kicks.
That he is black and not born there makes it something else to add to the list.
