Five ministers in breach so far and we can only see the tip of the iceberg. Can you imagine if these guys were subtle?

Corruption Left, Right and Centre
In reply to Headley
The unfortunate thing is that this has been going on by both parties since independence .It seems to be more blatant under the Holness regime. My brother was telling me a few days ago that a survey on corruption was taken recently and it's like the general populace was so immune to it they just couldn't care a damn. Seems as if Covid 19 has brought all the crooks both topanaris and the common ones out into the open. Most likely their traditional sources of ill gotten gains have been compromised.
one of the most frustrating feature of Jamaican politics is that the opposition accuses the government of corruption, gets elected and no one is charged with any crime.

Well not always. JAG Smith went to gaol and Kern Spencer was prosecuted.
In reply to DonD
Well there are polls and there are polls. That pollsters track record has been spotty at best.
What this situation has brought into the open is the extent to which the private sector bigwigs who pay lip service to anti- corruption are part and parcel of the corruption. As Chrissy always said public sector corruption does not occur without private sector corruption.
In reply to DonD
But some of this dates back to 2016. So COVID has nothing to do with it. They have convinced themselves that they can do it and get away with it and the poll has convinced them that they are right. Time will tell.
In reply to Headley
If the head is suspect what would you expect?
They are in the PNP as well however the PNP is lead by a man of good repute.

What's the situation concerning Reid and Pinnock? Is their case still before the Appeal Court?
Most of the Anglophone Caribbean countries are run by corrupt governments, yet people on this board want CARICOM to take over WI cricket, thinking that they would improve WI cricket management. MIND-BOGGLING!!!!!!!!

Wheatley, Reid, Vaz, Hutchinson and the latest Tufton.
All dismissed from cabinet or made Minister in the Office of the PM. No action yet on Tufton. Can you imagine what has escaped scrutiny?

English speaking politicians conned their electorates.
The only independence from England for places like Jamaica is for corrupt politicians and their friends. The people suffering ever since yet spend their last dollar celebrating independence.
The only holiday worth celebrating in August is Emancipation day.

Before the Courts. Tried to have the case thrown out and lost that so not quite sure where it is now. Their lawyers just trying to run down the clock.
In reply to DonD
True... if you omit the Michael Manley period when the only question was with PJ and the Shell waiver scheme. And then, you will remember, that he was dropped from Cabinet for it, promising "I shall return."

I thought Tufton's situation had to do with infidelity. From what I understand he was accused of cheating on his wife. He wasn't accused of using State's funds to support the new pum pum.
In reply to Ewart
Ewart I guess you are not aware of the David Coore situation or the funds given to Manley by Gadaffi following Manley's star boy performance at the Havana Third world non-alignment conference in 1977. These funds never reached Jamaica. I know for sure that one beneficiary is still alive.
In reply to DonD
No, I am not. What was the David Coore affair?
And for what purpose did Gadaffi give Michael money?
//
In reply to Ewart
I am sure we once communicated re the Coore situation, perhaps it might have been around the time he died.
Gadaffi's gift to Manley was supposed to be use for the benefit of the country.
In reply to DonD
Tufton's infidelity is with a director of the company that received money from NHF and MOH to carry out Jamaica Moves which was an unsolicited bid. Said director sat on the board of NHF while the decision to give her company the contract without declaring interest. As Tufton is Minister of Health, his erm private interests overlapped with this constitutional responsibility. At the very least he is conflicted. The question must be asked is did his entanglement benefit his um partner in the form of State resources?
In reply to HeadleyAfter reading the Gleaner article and some a the comments all I can say is WOW! And this:
No matter how corrupt, greedy, and heartless our government, our corporations, our media, and our religious & charitable institutions may become, the music will still be wonderful.

I need more on this. Let's start with David Coore, about whom by the way I don't remember you giving me the low down.
David was school mate and friends with Michael at Jamaica College and appointed him Finance Minister when he won in 1972. But strain developed when Michael announced free education for all; apparently David the Finance Minister did not know the details.
Then, around '77 '78, David left to take up a job with the World Bank. I believe there was some fuss that precipitated that, and that might be what you say you had told me, but I was out of the country at the time and do not remember and need updating if you would.
And since you are bot on the MB yet, I will just also ask about Gaddafi.
Was the money a gift or a loan?
Was the money for
a) Jamaica,
b) the PNP, or
c) Michael Manley himself?
Who received the money?
Michael himself?
Or some other person?
Where and when was anything ever published about this supposed transaction?
Thanks.
