HEADLINE: ‘WI technically deficient and ill-prepared’

CaribbeanCricket.com 2020-07-31 13:54:33

Former West Indies batting coach Toby Radford has questioned the preparation and technical approach by the side’s batsmen during the just-concluded Test series, and also believes the Caribbean unit placed undue pressure on their seam attack by not rotating their squad.

Speaking in the wake of the Windies’ 2-1 defeat to England in the three-Test series, Radford said the touring side’s batsmen had shown several technical deficiencies against the moving ball and appeared especially unprepared for what should have been a predictable line of attack from Stuart Broad.

“We were fine until Stuart Broad played. When Stuart Broad plays, he bowls mid to wide crease, angles the ball in and then nips it back in sharply. You’ve got to get out, you’ve got to kill the movement, you’ve got to kill the lengths so you’ve got to get forward,” said Radford who oversaw the batting group when West Indies retained the Wisden Trophy with a convincing series win in the Caribbean last year.

So they won a fluke. Then everyone seemed to think they were now a better team than in recent years. No, they are the same as one year, five years, ten years ago. These guys suffer from mental weakness more than anything else. Some of them may have some physical anility, but they lack the capacity to think and apply themselves to a given situation. Physical ability without an accompanying mental attribute will amount to a hill of beans.
The rains came and tried to give them a helping hand, but they could not take advantage. With only a portion of the last day to go, all these guys had to do was to sensibly, intelligently, patiently play each ball on merit and occupy the crease. Instead, these pea-brained, so-called batsmen went out there, flashing and swinging as if they were playing T20 cricket. And not even the truncated match could help them. As Michael Holding said "God Helps those who help themselves.
I must confess that I felt a little optimism after the first test. But looking at what transpired since that first test, I have come to the conclusion that West Indies cricket will never regain any prominence in world Test Cricket. Our guys just do not possess the brain power.

This crop of players was handpicked by WICB/CWI when they moved away from the bad influence senior players.

These players are well read, know the history of West Indies cricket, disciplined and are loyal and committed to West Indies cricket.

So if what you’re saying is true with this specific set of players...then there isn’t any hope (no pun intended) for us going forward.

If only we had played a seamer instead of Cornwall though....

You say they went out there flashing and swinging. The only player I saw so that was Shai Hope. And i understand why he did that although I’m not endorsing it.

Who else flashed and swung? MAYBE Blackwood.....but by then with 9 wickets down and Gabriel at the crease, the match was already lost.

"These players are well read, know the history of West Indies cricket, disciplined and are loyal and committed to West Indies cricket".
I know the rumshop allows licence for excesses but "WELL READ"??? Which one? Disciplined?? Comitted??
Did you see the swipe played by our supposedly best test batsman? That was indiscipline. Did you see Brooks standing 3 seet mindlessly as the ball hit Wokes hand and rolled near the stumps at the non-striker's end? That lacked focus/commitment. Did you hear Jason Holder's comment: "I'm not quite sure what changed after the first match" Moreover. " it is not as bad as it looks" And when asked why the team could not perform better in the final match since they were back at the ground with which they were most familiar, he simple mindedly said: "It has been challenging mentally, the guys saw the same people, same place and the same rooms"
This is the first time I have heard that familiarity with conditions makes a task more challenging mentally. How does this moronic babble comport with the history of WI cricket? I submit the former greats were ruthless and most had intelligence and a determination lacking in these boys.
It is 'a man thing'

Breds....I know you disappointed in the result. We all are. Especially after winning the 1st test.

But with all due respect, you nit picking. You carrying on as if somehow our past players...and especially the legends....were infallible. They never ever did these things you outline with this crop of players.

Eventually, hopefully, you’ll come around to realizing that this team, AT MINIMUM, did as well as could be expected. I believe they actually overachieved.

Most people’s entire perspective is viewed through the lens of the 3rd test. That’s entirely unfortunate as there were a lot of positives from the 1st 2 test matches.

As I said....hopefully in time you’ll see that

There is more management deficiencies in CWI than there are cricket weakness among the players!

POINT 2020-07-31 20:10:33

Well it seems that at least One Person
is coming around to my perspective , with regard to West Indies Cricket .

In this Forum for many years I have been critical , and still remain critical of the Worst International
Cricket Board in the Commonwealth .

WE are still trying to pour New Wine
into an Old Bottle , that aint going to work . The Bible stated that fact.

The main obstacle of West Indies Cricket is the WICBC/CWI , which is
over 100years old , and bluntly refuses to change its Structure .

Meanwhile , the Governments in the
Region accepts this antiquated Organization that is the Worst International Cricket Board in the
Commonwealth .

This is a classic case of :

" THE MORE THINGS CHANGE ,

THE MORE THEY REMAIN THE SAME ".

The Governments it seems are only
concerned about getting some Tourists
Dollars , Nothing else matters to them .

I get the impression , that THEY really don't give a Damn about West
Indies Cricket . If they did they would have already summoned the WICBC.CWI to a serious Meeting ; regarding the Stewardship of West Indies Cricket .

Management can't go on the field and knock sense, intelligence and discipline into the heads of grown men. The problems we see are on the field of play. These guys are paid to do a job and due to lack of discipline, intelligence and pride, they fail miserably. The best thing to do at this stage is to forget about cricket and send these guys home to find work. In their respective Caribbean country, at least some of them should be able to find jobs as cab drivers, farmers, security guards, messengers, store clerks, construction workers etc. Cricket requires too much brain work for them. They are not cut out for it. Continuing to try with them is an embarrassment!

Look like sombody want thrir work back.....it would have been difficult for the WI to win in england. Threaders here cuss ganga when he said that but it was the truth. England has not lost a test series at home since 2012......to what became the world's #1 side following the series-South Africa with ab, steyn, hashim amla, morkel, alviro peterson etc

The current Structure of Cricket in the Region has to be completely Changed. Unless that is done WE will be running very fast and finding Ourselves
in the same freaking Place .

My definition of Structure involves
Rules & Regulations with regard to
the various Cricket Boards in the Region , and also the Players .

I expect the Governments of the Region to have Representatives on the
Board , I also expect Our Players to
also have Representatives on the Board .

The current Structure of West Indies Cricket belongs to a bigone Era , it has demonstrated its uselessness in this Era .

Obviously since Governments are going to be on the Board , they will help
fund West Indies Cricket . They will
also ensure that the Stadia in the Region are well kept.

Players must also have Representation
on the Board . This aint going to be
Masters and Serfs Entity .

Players must have a fair hearing when
there are infractions or percieved
infractions . The Worst International
Cricket Board in the Commonwealth simply cannot be Judge & Jury .

There must also be Rules & Regulations with Regards to the Conduct of those in the governance of
Cricket in the Region .

THE ERAS OF MASTERS & SERFS THAT IS

CURRENTLY RAMPANT IN WEST INDIES

CRICKET MUST COME TO AN END .

We are living in a completely different era than when the WICBC /CWI was formed , All vestiges of that era must be completely removed .

It is this asinine mentality why WE are where WE are in International Cricket . The Era of the WICBC/CWI
every few years stating that it plans
to make structural changes and then do absolutely Nothing must come to an end .

I am of the opinion that Once a year
ALL Parties involved in Cricket must
meet to discuss what works well , and
what needs tweaking etc .

BTW Players MUST have Representation on the Board , this aint an era where
Players have no say in West Indies
Cricket .

POINT 2020-08-01 12:28:48

As usual most people , blame the Players , for the state of West Indies
Cricket .

When Our Players were the best in the
World , what did the WICBC/CWI do to
enhance the continuous competitiveness of our Players .

Did the WICBC Form a Regional Cricket
League ????????

What did the WICBC /CWI do when England decided to limit the number of Overseas Players , playing Cricket
in England ???????

What did the WICBC/CWI do to make our
players fully competitive in the
International Cricket Arena ????????

What did the WICBC/CWI do when the
ICC decided to limit the number of matches played between the Test Matches .

I cite the above to illustrate the fact that the WICBC/CWI were either
Clueless , or Dumb to the stark freaking fact that these ploys by the
ICC were employed to sabotage the
dominance of Our Players and Teams in
the International Cricket Arena .

To those who think what I have stated
here is fiction , meditate on the fact that certain members of the ICC
not so long ago proposed that THEY should get the Lions share of the ICC
Profits .
