Fabian Allen has been ruled out of the 2020 Caribbean Premier League after missing his flight from Jamaica to Barbados.

Players, staff and officials were required to arrive in Trinidad two weeks before the start of the tournament on August 18, with a number of charter planes organized to fly them to the island.

Allen, who was retained by St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in last month's draft, was due to reach Barbados on an internal flight on Monday, August 3 before boarding the charter to Trinidad, but was late to the airport and missed his flight.

"Unfortunately there was some confusion with his understanding of the flight details and he missed the flight," Allen's agent confirmed to ESPNcricinfo. "We explored all possibilities, but due to the pandemic and travel restrictions in Trinidad, the charter flight on Monday was the only way he could enter the country."

With Jamaica time being 1 hour behind that of the rest of the cricket playing Caribbean, I could see how Allen miscalculated.

I wish there was some way to remedy the situation.

Half way to the hairport he realized that he had forgotten his infamous diamond belly-button stud. Not being able to perform without it, he had no option but to return home and get it.

Sorry that he couldn't make his flight.

Allen recently got a new member to his family.. the baby probably kept him up for most of the night.. maybe that's why he missed the flight

Sad though.. Patriots will miss him big time, wish they could somehow get him there.

In 1988,Hurricane Gilbert ravaged Jamaica on the Monday and I was scheduled to fly out to London on the Wednesday.Of course there were no flights on the Wednesday and I was panicking because I had an important Post-Graduate Medical Examination the following Tuesday.The first flight out of Kingston was on the Saturday to Miami and I was at the airport 5 hours before the flight to make sure I got on and later that day I flew from Miami to London arriving on Sunday for the exam on Tuesday.
When something is important to you that is how you operate!!!!!!

can someone explain how you reach another country on an internal flight?

While Mr Allen has to take responsibility for his actions and mistakes, I believe that this illustrates the problem with the selection of the venue.

T&T doesn't even want to allow Trinis to return home but agreed to and worse were requested to host this years CPL. Stuff happens, unexpected emergencies and issues that may delay departure or require a temporary return home. Under this structure you have one chance in and presumably no options to leave and return even with isolation and testing.

Would this not have been better with another location? Wasn't T&T's peculiar advantage in hosting the CPL the "vibes" from the crowds who won't be there? Don't other countries have greater experience playing in empty venues ?

I am not sure who can answer that question, but would say several countries, Barbados and Jamaica among them have re-opened to commercial travel whereas T&T has not.

I acknowledged it was his fault, but my point is the T&T government's position on entry into the country leaves no space for anything but one option re travel. This could be an issue with entirely foreseeable circumstances.

Is he that dumb? He doesn't know the time difference between Jamaica and the Eastern Caribbean? Well, if he doesn't know that, maybe he has a serious problem. I don't think it's ignorance about time. It's the indiscipline and stupidity that most of our people suffer from. This is one of the problems plaguing our cricket as well as other aspects of our lives. Hope he learns his lesson.

Trinidad is the venue because Trinidad is the leading Caribbean country. Whatever they say goes. If Trinidad said they wanted to host it, who could say no?
