Why Can't Hayden Walsh Jnr

Raggs 2020-08-08 13:18:00

not be considered a test player? Watching Yasir Shah practicing his artwork in this test match why not our leggie having a go at this format.

velo 2020-08-08 13:49:30

i actually believe he can be a test cricketer he actually spins the ball and unlike bishoo has a googly i don't know how much four day cricket he plays

To what I've seen. He wants to learn and represent the region in all formats.keen enough cricketer, he played in the last regional season.

In reply to Raggs Needs to play more 4 Day cricket. Got to get that practice in.

anthonyp 2020-08-08 14:20:29

WI need a wrist spinner.. maybe CWI should send scouts to each Caribbean country in search of wrist spinners.

The GCB killed the career of a promising leg spinner for Bishoo and his long hops.. Amir Khan a former WI U15 and U19 wrist spinner who could actually bat.. he played about 2 FC matches for Guyana as a 19-20 yr old and they sacked him.. he ended up going to USA and play curry goat cricket.. he's back in Guyana but is now unfit with a belly rivaling Cornwall.

I'm sure there others in the region who faced something similar.

hayden walsh jnr is decent and I've seen clips to show he's humble and willing to learn.

Because of some dotish rule that says you must play 4 day cricket to be eligible for the test team.

What they concerned about? He mightn’t be able to bowl more than 4 overs?

Asinine

we need to bypass certain stupid laws and help the coach help the country.
wasim akram just said someone which caught my imagination when he was introducing the squad on a promotional clip .."we have all base covered"..we need to learn from sensible people.

Do you guys know anything about wrist spin bowling?
I used to bowl right arm leg spin and googlies and got a little bit of coaching from none other than Roy Fredericks and Lloyd Cornelius. The first thing to know about wrist spin bowling is that it is VERY DIFFICULT.It is much harder than finger spinning to control length and line. The second thing to know about wrist spinning is the you have to have STRONG WRISTS.Freddo taught me a couple of exercises to do to strengthen my wrists. The third thing about wrist spinning is that it is very intellectual and you have to be thinking all the time because its basis is deception.
Wrist spinning requires constant practice and thoughtfulness and to be successful you have to work harder than any other discipline in cricket in my opinion.
Is Hayden Walsh Jr willing to put in the work?

BTW I recently looked up Lloyd Cornelius and they have him listed as an off-break bowler so I e-mailed them telling them to correct it.That guy had a wicked googly and as a teenager I felt he was good enough to get a chance at test cricket.

I saw a documentary on this guy. he looks willing to take lessons. seen him listening keenly to Andre Russell about power batting.
we need off spinner and leg spinner in our touring parties just to give a weak squad some form of balance

Played cricket in NY as a teammate of Milton Gravesande (spelling) in the 90's. Was a excellent leg spinner and batsman. Took many a catch in the slips off his bowling. Big dude that spins big and fast. Didn't remember many goolies at all but got a whole lot of wickets.

Hayden Walsh Jnr probably prefers to work at Home Depot than to play in a team where he probably won't get to bowl before the 40th over anyway. Even then, the field would be set deep, with no slip or anyone close to the bat.

In other words, his role would probably be reduced to keeping the over rate ticking over.

I vaguely remember him.I think he played for Berbice.

Norm 2020-08-08 17:38:19

And there you have it.

England is developing its spin talent by playing Bess match after match, even if he is not their ace bowler. Pakistan plays 2 spinners.

What does WI do to develop its spinners?

According to the WI savants on this board, no WI spinner is "good enough" to warrant a place in the team. Surely a bunch of skunts, I say.

Walsh Jr. Was in the Barbados Pride stuo, but was often left out in favour of the fast bowlers and Nurse. He got frustrated and went to try his luck playing for the USA team, but then decided to play for the Barbados Tridents last year which catapulted him to the West Indies white ball teams. Hopefully he can play some red ball cricket again to force his way into the year team.

Not an easy matter for someone living in the USA. No American boss will be sympathetic to a request for leave to play weeks and weeks of cricket - something that Americans know absolutely nothing about, but will invariably look down upon.

velo 2020-08-10 01:38:32

right now chase is the best spinner you have

I'm not sure that he actually lives in the USA, but he is eligible t play for them because of his father.

good batsman will find West Indies eventually, leg spinners will have to rooted out and developed

Did you look at those Richie Benaud tapes on leg spin bowling. It is very hard and takes constant practice.Richie said it takes at least 3 years practicing 3 hours daily. He also says that bowling flippers should not be done until you get to age 18 as it can easily snap a tendon in the youngsters.I saw this tape about 10 years ago and wish I had seen a similar tape when I was a teenager.
He confirms what I always knew and that is that leg spin bowling is arguably the most difficult aspect of cricket.

Raggs 2020-08-10 17:47:53

In reply to Dukes

but in a 4th innings chase if the leg spinner is in your armoury he stands a better weapon for a victory than an off spinner so I would think pick the best of the lot and perfect his art as you said if that person want the work and have that desire I don't see not Mr Walsh jnr lacking in any of those departments.
a bowled its a bit in my high school days. turned it well enough but pitching it exactly where I wanted it was damn hard but that's were practice comes in and true dedication.

Raggs 2020-08-10 18:27:09

In reply to Dukes

I watched them before. That art was nearly easy. My favourite form of bowling. Watching a legspinner practice his trade is always box office stuff. Its either they beat him to kill him or the opposition is perplexed against his mastery.

With your face and lack of success with the ladies, until you got rich and successful later in life, leg spin was purpose built for you since you spent so much time strengthening your wrist.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Not anymore. If things go belly-up for his Windies career, he'll have to wait to be eligible again for the US. Hopefully he'll develop into a quality all-formats player. I don't see why he couldn't.

actually a reasonable rule!

Norm 2020-08-14 13:27:28

England playing Dom Bess in Test after Test, even though he hasn't wrecked the opposition, and they could turn to Root for spin.

THAT is how you develop your spin resources.
