When someone get an IPL contract they could afford a lot of gold chains, Rutherford and Hetmyer sometimes display their gold chains also.

I think everyone is well aware of that

I have said it, X, times...it is ostentatious & tacky! Fool stop. evil

dayne 2020-09-27 18:01:54

Hopefully someone would advise these young guys to spend their money on things that would grow what they have earned, one bad season and they could lose their IPL contracts.

This is unlike former WI opening batsman Adrian Barath, who instead got himself a (brand new) Range Rover as soon as he ascended (as per the RedBaron). End of career.

Many people who are commenting on Archer's gold dressing have his well-being in their concern, there were some players before him, like Richard Austin who earned a lot from a Packer contract and spent much of it on fancy cars and partying, Herbert Chang who made a lot from a South Africa tour that was illegal at that time. both eventually ended up as beggars on the street and losing most of their sanity.

cherri 2020-09-29 19:16:55

And there are plenty after him that did not,,,,What is wearing gold to do with ending up on the streets?, all them fellas had one common connection.....I will not go there, and I believe I can say with a degree of certainty that Jofra is far from that avenue......don't want to cast aspersions. But Jofra has a strong support system.......people need to stop these attacks, (someone came on here sometime back to talk about the situation between his father and mother, what does that have to do with anything?) because that is what they are, he is a young man and he is going to do what young men do, wish the young man well as stop finding ways to attack everything he does.......

I know some of you especially those from a certain geographic location would like to see him end up like the above mentioned two.......I hope you wait a long fucking time.......HATERS.......

Like was stated, most people are looking out for his well-being, too many young athletes end up wasting their money.

gold jewelry is not a good investment, content is like 60% gold, the mark up on those items are as high as 100%. That said a gold chain to Archer is like the cost of stake to people here!

if you want to talk about the seriousness of it then you have to really delve into the social message it sends. First of all it has a negative stigma tied to it. Everyone in the IPL has enough money to buy gold chains but you will more than likely find a West Indian cricketer with an elaborate gold chain. Just like you will find an American rapper doing the same. It is sometimes interpreted as a lack of financial nuance and not being accustomed to money. A few years ago the Big Bash had a pre tournament ad with Bravo and Gayle wearing huge gold chains. They will never ask anyone from any other country to do that.

In addition when you are a top sportsman you become a role model, not by choice. As a result young fans will model themselves after you. So some of them that cannot afford those gold chains will seek to attain them because of a star's influence. Things are often not as simple as they look but not as complicated as we make it.

I thought gold was a ceremonial item around the world. I get your point though, "everybody have they thing".
