WI to choose 15-man Test, T20 squads for New Zealand

THE WEST Indies selection panel is expected to choose respective 15-man squads, for the two Test matches and three T20 Internationals away to New Zealand. The tour is set to run from November 27 to December 15.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) CEO Johnny Grave, in a Whatsapp interview on Tuesday, said, “(The) current plan is to depart towards the end of October…15 Test squad and 15 T20I squad with about five or six reserves also travelling.”

Chairman of selectors Roger Harper said in a recent interview that the teams for both series are expected to be named this week.

Good move, hopefully they select some young players in the practice squad so they can practice and train at a higher level than the regional standards.

I hope they remember what happened on the last tour and try to change things accordingly.
Players like Nick Pooran and Brandon King needs to be looked at in a test match arena?

I know King failed miserably in the CPl but he was swinging from the hip from the opening ball in the matches, if it was a decent ball, great ball or nothing ball his mindset by team orders was to find a way to smash it.
In the first class regional games he does look classy and having time to play his shots properly.

I misread your post originally.

King had a very poor CPL season that’s true. But he has shown lots of potential and I would not discard him at this point. The option would be to bring in Simmons to replace him. I would rather invest in a young King than an ageing Simmons at this point. Especially with next years World Cup in mind.

That’s harsh on Simmons who ended up among the most runs in the tournament and played a match winning hand in the final, and he’s had a pretty good T20 career. But Simmons really only came good in 2 innings in that tournament. The 2 most important innings for sure. But he too was pretty poor before that.
