HEADLINE: Pooran leaves tongues wagging in IPL

Just days after Sir Vivian Richards questioned selectors’ reluctance to consider Nicholas Pooran for Test cricket, two former internationals have raved about his exceptional talent. This comes after another stunning performance by Pooran in white-ball cricket.

The gifted left-hander smashed his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) half-century in a losing effort today as his Kings XI Punjab suffered a batting meltdown to crash to a heavy 69-run defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad. The left-hander hit a sparkling 77 off 37 deliveries but Kings XI still failed in their quest to overhaul 202 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, ending on 132 all out with 19 balls to spare.

Despite the loss, Pooran was the talk of the town with former Australian international and now cricket commentator Tom Moody gushing over his quality. Moody, has been watching Pooran for a number of years in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and in the IPL and believes the batsman has an exciting future ahead of him.

“I don’t think there are better strikers of the ball in world cricket than Nicholas Pooran,” said Moody while speaking on T20 Timeout.

I would strongly suggest pooran play a season of FC cricket before he plays for the WI. No doubt he'll conquer it. But to put him in the test environment, where the red ball moves appreciably more than the white ball, is asking for trouble. And NZ has two very skillful operators in boult and southee.....could be disastrous

Well said mate,at the same time if Pooran is picked to play tests he must bat maybe at 5 or 6.I feel he looked really good in the 50 OVER WC against some of the best fast bowlers in world cricket;he especially played one of the best innings against England,we know some of the best bowlers of swing is right here in England. That innings looked like a very good test match knock.I agree with you though'

Hope, Pooran and Hetymyer. Add 3 decent bowlers from the emerging group and we may last 5 days in a test match and even win a few.
In 10 years we can beat Australia again.

You Hope Pooran and Hetmeyer do what? That was an incomplete sentence.

Test cricket will destroy Pooran's successful career.

Pooran looks like he is adaptable, I think if he starts playing Test cricket some batsmen in the present side could lose their inclusion.

Paraphrasing: Is this the same Viv Richards, who said that Dwayne Smith is the real deal, and he reminds him of himself in his heyday playing in the WI team, after his 105 not out against SA.

Ricardo Powell and Dwayne Smith, both were exceptionally talented, but got pigeonholed in limited overs cricket first, and were mishandled there. Granted that players must take some responsibility, but these guys were no ordinary batsmen.

Pooran has to play long form cricket to realize his true cricket potential.

Making plenty 20 over money is great, but a true artist sees the bigger picture.
