HEADLINE: 'Shocked' Seales sees New Zealand tour as learning opportunity

Nineteen-year-old Jayden Seales said he was pleasantly surprised when he received word that he had been called to be a reserve player for the West Indies for their upcoming three T20, two-Test tour of New Zealand.
The promising right-arm medium bowler represented the West Indies U19 and played six matches and took eight wickets for four-time CPL champions Trinbago Knight Riders earlier this year. Notwithstanding, it was beyond his wildest dreams to be called by the West Indies selectors so early in his career.
“I was really shocked when I heard the news. During CPL there were talks that I was performing in CPL (and) I had a good World Cup. It was the last thing in my mind. I was just playing my cricket and then after CPL I got the phone call. I was very happy, but shocked,” said the player, who only turned 19 on September 10, during an interview with Newsday.

I am very happy for the young man and really wish him all the best. However our selectors have me confused. I mean what changed from the last tour of England and now? Have we played cricket since and the young man took more wickets? I don't understand why they went to England with Keon Harding, but didn't take him to New Zealand to further help his development. I still can't understand why they have Cornwall and Riefer on the test team when we know they are not going to play them. In fact I don't see them ever playing Riefer in a test.

What Jayden Seales selection means, is that he has a Godfather on the Selectors panel. Someone is lobbying for him even though he has never played a F/C game.

I am glad for the young man ..and I do think he will deserve a place eventually, in fact I think he will do well in NZ.
however if he is picked,how does the selectors justify their point aganist Pooran because he has not played enough first class cricket?

The Selectors just lost any logical justification why Pooran cannot be selected for the Test team, but that is depending on if he really want to play Test cricket.

it is on record that pooran has stated that he want to paly test criccket. he explaind that when he got into the accident,which happend when he was yet a teen, he had to be mindful of how much cricket he played and therfore chose the shorter version for health and for security reasons( cant forget he is close to Polard, and the issues between pollard and the CWI at the time was not lost on him)
but now that he is fit again , he is ready to play . Give the man the call
From my memory , Marshall, Ambrose, Richards, and Roberts al got called up to test teams with very little first class under their belt.

it looks like this was a simmons pick i'm not going to get down on the young guy hope he learns from this experience but i feel for the other fast bowlers in the fc tournament who put in the hard work and were not rewarded i don't know what is this situation with reifer he is not better than keemo paul or jason holder as and all rounder so why they keeping him around for. that place could have gone to someone else

Agree, instead of Reifer they could have selected another opening batsman, at the moment Campbell is a sure pick for both Test even if he fails.
