The 2020 season of the Hero CPL is one that Jamaican allrounder Rovman Powell would want to quickly forget.

In 11 matches, 10 of which he batted, Powell scored 106 runs at an average of 11.77 and had a top score of 33. His strike rate was an anemic 86.88.

“It’s an important tour, not just for the West Indies but also for me,” Powell said while addressing the media during a virtual press conference from Christchurch, New Zealand where the team is in quarantine.

“Not scoring a lot of runs in CPL, that is behind me. It was a difficult competition for me but, I have brighter things now. I have three T20 games that I am looking forward to so hopefully I can put my best foot forward with quality training sessions leading up to this game.”

Powell had a poor CPL because he is a poor player of spin bowling and the CPL was dominated by the spin friendly pitches last season.

Like he said, the NZ tour is important for him, if he fails there his place could be lost to Paul or Shepherd, two players that are better bowlers and more comfortable batting spin bowling.

You sure Powell is ahead of Keemo Paul in the T20 pecking order?

On the World stage yes, Paul has an IPL contract for 2 years now, Powell never had one, Paul is more likely to make the final eleven for the WI, Powell is on the fence.

Powell, Thomas, Williams and even Fletcher should consider themselves lucky to be in the squad.

Based on the squad these guys might be in the first XI

1. King
2. Fletcher
3. Hety
4. Pooran
5. Pollard
6. Allen
7.
8. Keemo
9.
10. Walsh
11. Cottrell

Mayers, Shepherd, Thomas, Williams & Powell will be fighting for the two remaining spots. If it was up to me Mayers and Shepherd gonna get the spots.
