From the Buenos Aires Times.

Diego Armando Maradona, the legendary number 10 who guided Argentina to World Cup glory, thrilling the world in ways no other footballer had done before, has died.

The Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata coach, 60, passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest at his house in San Andrés, near Tigre, north of Buenos Aires.

He had recently undergone brain surgery.

Multiple news outlets confirmed the news, reporting that the Albiceleste star had fainted at home close to noon. Three ambulances quickly arrived on the scene, but were unable to revive him.

Maradona left hospital two weeks ago, eight days after undergoing surgery to remove a blood clot lodged between his brain and skull at a clinic in Olivos.

He had looked unwell during a brief appearance on October 30 to mark his 60th birthday at the Gimnasia's stadium. He seemed to have difficulty walking and did not stay to watch his team's game.

The following Monday, he was taken to hospital in La Plata, where the club is based, suffering from symptoms of anaemia and dehydration.

Tests revealed the blood clot, after which Maradona was transferred to a specialist clinic in the capital.

Maradona has been admitted to hospital three times in the last 20 years for serious health issues – two of which were potentially fatal – due to his drug and alcohol addictions. He remained dependent on alcohol, according to reports.

Alongside Brazil's Pelé, who turned 80 last month, Maradona is regarded as perhaps the greatest footballer of all time.

Among the greatest of all time.
I remember being on Hellshire beach on a Saturday in 1982 watching the World Cup on what we would now describe as an ancient tiny portable TV. He missed a penalty that day. We knew he was human that day.
He hasn't been well for years- the pressure of celebrity was too much for him, but those who loved him tried Sixty is young.

He brought much delight to my life. Thanks for the memories. cry cry

Had it not been for his demons, how much greater could Maradona have been?

imusic 2020-11-25 20:29:51

Arguably The G.O.A.T

May you rest and find peace Diego. Thank you for the beautiful memories

How blessed are we to have lived in an age where we got to see Muhammad Ali, Pele, Maradona, Messi, Ronaldo, Michael Jordan, Clive Lloyd’s West Indies cricket team, Viv, Lara, Tendy, Roger Federer, Serena, Usain Bolt, Barry Sanders etc

Many of them I’ve had the privilege to see do their thing LIVE.

In reply to nitro Ever watched when he took out Batista in the Brazil vs Argentina 1982 World Cup? Instant red card...Then he was supposed to have been the next Pele.

The man commanded the entire field like few others could. He was born for the game. Life outside the game just did not seem to interest him that much.

a great, great player. Life with all it's glories and imbalances. A victim of his own gifts or a victim of the demands of life! One cannot help but ponder.

Blessed indeed!

Great list... to which one could add:

Steffi Graff, Lawrence Rowe, Sir Garfield, George "Atlas" Headley, John McEnroe, Arthur Ashe, Pete Sampras, Lynn Swann & John Stallworth, Warren Moon, Doug Flutie,

and "The Fridge" ......... if you never saw his touchdown you never saw anything!

Still have my ticket stub for the world cup clash at Boston at that old stadium, can't quite remember the name, between Nigeria and Argentina,Diego was the shortest man on the field but the tallest talent by far, was really a treat. RIP!

of that group I saw all the West Indian players plus Maradona live. Watching Clint Marcelle at age 16 playing under 19 was one of the more enthralling experiences I had in sports. Russell Latapie ability to see a through pass so early was amazing and remains engraved in my memory.
