West Indies batsman, Jermaine Blackwood, is looking to build on his current run of good form and identified performing at a consistently high level for the regional team as his next target.

The 29-year-old Blackwood was one of the few bright spots for the Windies on a dismal tour of New Zealand that was capped off by massive innings defeats in a two-Test series.

Blackwood, however, managed to do something the majority of his teammates could not and that is score runs.  The Jamaica-born batsman crafted a determined 104 in the first innings, of the first match, forming a valuable partnership down the order with bowler Alzarri Joseph.  In the second Test, he scored 69, a high score for the second-match batting line-up.

While acknowledging the achievement, the batsman has insisted there is plenty of hard work to be done.

“I did well but it wasn’t enough, because we still lost the two-Test games.  So, I think going forward I need to do better so I can actually win some games for my team,” Blackwood told the Mason and Guest radio program.

Bad mind and jealousy will be the end of you guys. I am sure that if any of your dismal scoring players were in Blackwood’s form, you guys would have been all over the boards with glee. However, how can we really have a unified WI test team when some so-called fans are not happy for a relatively successful WI batsman yet quick to herald their poor-performing players?

I support your following statements Blackwood and congratulate you on your growing level of maturity and common sense, just humble yourself and keep working hard despite your idiotic critics who are still not happy that you are currently the best WI test batsman. Understandable, they are still unhappy do not forget that they made a previous desperate attempt to curtail your cricket career:

We're forced to agree, sudden.

The man was so lucky to be at his home ground, Sabina Park, when the opportunity arose for someone to fill the position as first West Indies Substitute batsman. He accepted and hasn't looked back yet.

Reminds us of the great Sir Vivian Richards who grabbed the opportunity 'with both hands' when one Maurice Foster made himself unavailable for that Indian tour.
