BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams believes next month's tour of Bangladesh could signal the start of “long and fruitful careers” for some members of the squad, once they grabbed the opportunities presented in the absence of seasoned players.

Several new players were yesterday included for their first international tour after 10 first-choice members of the Test and One-Day International sides declined selection for the January 20 to February 15 series due to “COVID-19 related concerns or personal fears”

Two others, white ball left-arm spinning all-rounder, Fabien Allen and Test wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich, opted out of the tour for “personal reasons”.

“The circumstances with players choosing not to go is something I view as an opportunity,” Adams told an online media conference following the announcement of the Test and ODI squads for Bangladesh.

Adams might well have a point. 1977-78 Kerry packer signed up LLoyd and the WI team. Kallicharan led the remnants of the team and some newbies to India in 1978. That group included a relatively unknown by the name of MALCOLM DENZIL MARSHALL.

In 1977-78 the regional teams consisted of the best players in the region.
Marshall would had played with and against the world best, Viv, Haynes, Greenidge and others.
After the last test Australian said, some members of the team, will continued preparation for the next test, by playing in the Bigbash.
We dont have the kind of prep.

Adams sound like he want to discipline some of those boys for using the loop hole .. The Covid permit..

Did Malcolm Marshall ever played against Viv, Lloyd, Kali and others, and did he not played with GG and Dessie, either in the BCA or for Barbados, prior to going to India?
I can look at my cricket quarterly to get answers.

Agree on most accounts with Adams...save and except ...the placement of strong management group under Simmons....one of the worst, indiscipline and outdated.....I have trust upon talented youngsters rather than morbid management......

Larry Gomes made 51 & 82 in Marshall first test match.

Director of Cricket? Can't remember such a position actually existed at CWI ...

Marshall was known about even before he made his first-class debut, in those days Barbados was overloaded with fast bowlers that's why Marshall was not in the team, also in those days some of the Barbadian fast bowlers had English County contracts and still they could not make the B/dos team.

Barbados has a history of playing favourites in their team and some players outside that circle had to go other routes to get recognized
