West Indies opener Kieran Powell remains unavailable for selection after failing to make the team's fitness standard, according to CWI chief selector Roger Harper.
The 30-year-old Powell was surprisingly left out of a team that was hastily arranged after several members of the first team declined to tour Bangladesh. Many believe Powell capable of being a regular part of the first team.
The Leeward Island’s batsman was the highest runs scorer in the previous season of the Cricket West Indies Super50 tournament. Powell scored 524 runs with a high score of 121 not out. He also had two 50s and two 100s.
“Mr. Powell has performed very well, he was the leading runs scorer for the Super50 competition, but he is yet to meet the fitness standard,” Harper told the Mason and Guest radio program.

I now believe the Selectors are playing games, couldn't they come up with a better excuse? Cornwall could make the team several times at over 300 pounds, but another player maybe at 190 pounds cannot?

In reply to Jumpstart Why you jumping on Cornwall when it is already clear that his fitness requirements are exceptional.
What I would question is are these fitness requirements not standardized for all the franchises? Kieran Powell passed a fitness test for Leewards Hurricanes and he went on to the top scorer for the Super 50. So how come he cannot make the West Indies team? Is there a higher standard and if so why?

Harper is giving tough competition to Brown....Powell should have been selected as captain of ODI team....in the name of yo yo test ....they do their vindictive acts of omission and commission.....

is their a medical certificate saying so.....tell us and if there is, there should be some dissemination of that document. Because it aint fair to have a dude over 300 pounds and a fit strong player like powell is unable to make the team despite good performances

In reply to JumpstartLook Bro leave Cornwall alone. Our focus should be on PERFORMANCE. What should be the primary criteria Performance or fitness?

Mr. Harper said "fitness". He did not say "physical fitness". Since it is not possible for Cornwall to pass any physical fitness test that a healthy Powell could not I am confident that either Powell is injured or the assumption of physical fitness is incorrect.

Powell is known for mental issues, remember when he said someone obeah him or something of the sort, then he wants to play baseball?

Cornwall.....doesnot merit a place on the team.....either in fitness or form. It cant be that everybody from Lance Gibbs to Tony Gray cant be wrong. The man is the second incarnation of Dwayne Leverock

With all due respect to Gibbs and gray his stats prove otherwise.
BTW His medical history is none of your business.
