Will there be 401, in this test?

openning 2021-01-05 04:23:28

New Zealand is already one up, why declare when 401 runs is available to set a new record

All I can say, Willianson has more lives than a cat.
Not impress with his batting after all them drops.

His stats in England, Australia and SA are not flattering. In india neither. Home town bully

True. He is a very good batter overall, excellent in NZ, but not great.

After this summer, he should send gifts to the WI and Pak fielders.

A good question for CRICINFO's- "Ask Steven" column would be:

Steven, I noticed Kane Williamson was dropped at least 8 times during the last 4 tests versus WI and Pak, is this a record for any test series? He missed one test, so he actually played 3.

Williamson's drop percentage is still much lower than Blackwood.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

lol lol lol

Drapsey 2021-01-05 12:02:33

It's certainly good to see Blackwood being referenced in the same context as Williamson, one of the world's leading batsmen.

He must be on his way to greatness.

PLAYER TEST CENTURY @HOME AWAY 100in every Test country AVE
Virat Kohli 87 27 13 14 Yes 53.42
Steven Smith 75 26 13 13 Yes 61.33
Brian Lara 131 34 17 17 Yes 52.88
Sachin Tendulkar200 51 22 29 Yes 53.78
Vivian Richards 121 24 11 13 No 50.23
Kane Williamson 82 24 12 12 Yes 53.++

Let me give you a jump start on this, using your logic,Kohli, Smith,
Lara and Richards are home town bullies.

There are a lot of other inferences we could draw from the above numbers to state who is who but i rest my case. Now it's over to you to show me how Williamson qualifies as a home town bully.

India has made two trips to nz since the last time they toured india. Even the WI, as mediocre as they are have toured NZ twice since the last time they toured here. The calendar favors them. England also has toured NZ twice since the last visit to england of the kiwis

Which is why i don't rate him as highly as i do Kohli or Smith. as grotesque as is he is to watch(He tries things so i guess that is a feather on hi cap). They both have played many matches abroad nd have come out on top even if their teams don't. Kohli scored over 500 runs in england on his last visit. Lara scored over 700 on his 1995 visit to england. I can't see kane dominating foreign conditions the way they have. Not even tendulkar did that exemplified by the fact that he's in the top 30 for most runs scored in a series

1) First sign of a person unable to cogently state their point - they resort to name calling.

Surely you can do better than that!

2) Second sign of a person unable to cogently state their point - they resort to statistics that vary from their original point which i will repeat here. True to your name calling penchant you labeled Kane Williamson a "home town bully". I then showed you that he was no different from Lara, S. Smith, Kholi or Richards in terms of centuries scored. We could look at 50s as well.

3) Allow me to work with your statistics for a moment:

Note, NZ do not play a lot of Test matches and you can see from my original post among those i listed, bar S. Smith he has played the least amount of Test matches.

ENGLAND - he has not toured there since 2015. I suspect you will agree he has gotten significantly better since.
By my count, 2 series in England 1 century and 1 fifty.

INDIA - he has not toured there since 2016. I suspect you will agree he has gotten significantly better since.
By my count, 3 series in India 1 century and 3 fifty.
AVERAGE IN INDIA 53.66

S.AFRICA - he has not toured there since 2015. I suspect you will agree he has gotten significantly better since.
By my count 4innings 1 fifty.

AUSTRALIA - last toured 2019, he did not have a good series. Lara, Richards, Kohli and S. Smith have all had series such as this.
By my count, 4 series in Australia comprising 14 innings 2 centuries and 1 fifty.
As far comments you ascribed to the ICC, the century (like that of the opposition in that match) still stands.
AVERAGE IN AUSTRALIA 42.84

I think we have disected Kane Williamson's Test career enough minus an iota of evidence that he (1) he is a home town bully (2) he is any different from Richards, Lara, S. Smith or Kohli.

Anything else?

Brother.....Brian Lara never went to Australia and not scored a century.

INDIA - he has not toured there since 2016. I suspect you will agree he has gotten significantly better since.

The only way to know is to look at his outside stats since then
ENGLAND - he has not toured there since 2015. I suspect you will agree he has gotten significantly better since.

Which leads to my point, until proven otherwise, he's a hometown bully who the international schedule favors

1) The moron is your brother now? I'll take it. big grin
2) You highlight that stat on Lara, fine that's exceptional.
3) I give you that, Kane Williamson, the erroneously styled home town bully, is the quickest, from debut, to score a Test century against all other Test playing nation.

INDIA - in India
AUSTRALIA - in Australia
ENGLAND - in England
S.AFRICA - in NZ
Sri Lanka - in Sri Lanka
PAKISTAN - in Sharjah
WI - in WI
BANG - in Bnagladesh
ZIM - in Zimbabwe

"Home town bully" not likely!

Again, you have showed me absolutely nothing that lend itself to the world's best batsman being a "home town bully"

That's a serious charge. You need to respond. It is after all a West Indian record and one of the few (relatively) recent achievements we have to be proud of in windies cricket

NZ has always been the lowest Test playing nation since back when. Dunno why back then. With today's 2 and done series stats could be a tad skewed in that opportunity to fail or achieve are limited. big grin

I was proud as a youth when Gary scored 365, the races that day, did not let us hear the ball he made the record, I enjoyed both Lara's achievements, also the guy that broke Lara's record, but as a sports fan, I understand records are there to be broken.
So anyone the score 401 runs, give another batsman a target, to score the most runs in test.
Records give sportsman a goal, it is not own by anyone.
