West Indies captain Jason Holder has lashed out at the former greats who constantly criticize the current team without providing solutions.
Holder, who was speaking on the Mason&Guest in Barbados on Tuesday, also suggested that because of the constant caustic criticisms, the current players are reluctant to reach out to them for guidance.
Chief among the critics is former fast-bowler Andy Roberts, who just last month, was critical of the West Indies captain, especially after the recent tour of New Zealand where the West Indies lost by an innings in each of the two-Test matches.
“I think Jason Holder as a captain on the field is lost,” Roberts said. “I don’t think he’s aware what is going on the field because if I win a toss as a captain and before lunch on a green top pitch I am having a man on the point boundary then I am lost.

Strong minds who are in leadership positions and are equipped with the tools to get the job done can use harsh criticism as motivation.
Simple: prove Roberts et al wrong and you shut them up.

Well, actually Roberts did offer a solution for Holder's issues with his on field management, Roberts said he should take more instructions from the coaching staff who are seeing things that he is not seeing. However the critiques want to see the WI do better, they are tired of the losing because of strategy and lack of cricket sense. Holder should look at the criticism and try to improve.

Holder's response shows he is taking it personally. He is lost.

Good response by Holder....most of the former great did have opportunity to help West Indies team in the past ....from Lloyd,Viv,Garner...... But result hardly any improved...
Holder is one player, who has improved as player but his captaincy is still improving.....
At the same time,it's tough to lead a side ,which consists of batsmen averaging in twenties and thirties...
Holder has quite rightly said that ex-players should help current players specially batters...

Listen to the podcast, then give your response, Jason was on for the entire show.
Please the writer responded to his comment on Roberts, but nothing about his comments on Lloyd, Lara and others.
He is in Antigua and is looking forward to speaking to Roberts.

Holder is soft, can't take a lil criticism from former professionals of the game. if you been winning the toss consecutively in a test match and putting in the opposition to bat and still losing the game, why don't you try batting first the next time. Why do you always want to chase when you can't even chase?

Because he has Chase so he thinks he can chase but Chase can't chase

Looks like you peel too many onions and can't see properly.
How many players took the advice given by the greats?

I really believe that what is best for both Holder and West Indies is for Holder to develop as captain but in order to do this he has to change his role in the team.
I think he should concentrate on batting and become kraiggs opening partner.
forget bowling, as trying to be an all rounder and captain is a very big ask.

The WI might be the first team that might have to employ a coach specifically for the captaincy, over the years it has been a position that have caused much frustration for fans and former players. Apart from the Sammy years, every other captain lately have been strategically incoherent too many times.

After Sammy? After Lloyd, Richards and perhaps Richardson WI have had questionable captains. All perhaps related to the quality of our various teams

Holder's is a mild manner captain......Gayle said holder is too gentle to be captain...At the same time the best of captain can't do anything if batsmen in the team are averaging in 20's and 30's..,..
Also if the team is consistently losing....it take lots of mental toughness to keep on performing....
World of cricket has seen lots of good as well as great players feeling captaincy pressure and their performance falling apart...

Well, I would consider both Richards and Richardson to be questionable captains, Richards inherited a good team from Lloyd, anyone would have won with the team he inherited and Richardson's captaincy marked the beginning of the decline of WI cricket. However there were good captains after Lloyd who had bad teams, but fans could see that they had strategic presence.

Walsh and Hooper, but they were captain when the WI was in decline so their wins are not that impressive.

Legends are speaking out, just like fans, whom are frustrated to the empt degree -because our team are at rock-bottom. Holder and the boys have to convert negative energy to positive by winning and all will be well...
