Probably the best of the bunch.
In reply to buds
indeed a fave of yours if I remember rightly...
In reply to Ewart
Brendan Nash much like The Shiv would probably still making runs, if they didnt unfairly discarded them
In reply to Ewart
What, pray tell, is Frank Worrell doing in that list??
In reply to VoopsandOut
Frank Worrell was a former Jamaica captain and Boys Town Senior Cup player who spent a good portion of his adult life living in Jamaica.
I presume he is on Ewart's list for the same reason Teddy Griffiths is!
In reply to jacksprat
OK, therefore not Jamaican born or nationality but representing Jamaica. Got it. Would be interesting to rank them. I suppose Headley, Rowe, Gayle, Worrell, Adams as top 5 but who completes top 10?
Cleveland Davidson
Blackwood, Campbell (John), Russell, Bonner are not Jamaican? Asking a friend!
Thanks for the suggestions. I will add all those suggestions an d we have 59... although I believe some of these names were members of the Jamaica team as bowlers and not batsmen.

In reply to Ewart
What about Desmond Lewis (West Indies
Wicket Keeper / Batsman?
In reply to Yadi
I have him on my list as a batsman. He has one of the highest TEST averages of all our bats. He was unfairly discarded from West Indies team.
//
In reply to Ewart
Looks like Ja had the most if not the best batsmen in the WI
Now Bonnie and Blackie to continue the trend
My boy Jerry Reid
In reply to camos
Yes!
And Canute Barclay.
//
I would humbly suggest that all players who have scored a century for Jamaica might be a more interesting list.
In reply to Ewart
Allie Binns
In reply to camos
JK Holt
In reply to sudden
The poster has no shame, Sir Frank a Barbadian is on the list, but not the son of Jamaicans, who left Australia to play for Jamaica.
Shawn Finley, Kennar Lewis, Gavin Wallace, Keith Hibbard, Dukes!
In reply to Ewart William Haye, Owen Allison
Rex Suckoo (sp)
In reply to Dukes
Agreed...this looks like a list of everybody who ever held a bat
In reply to newdread
And yet your name is not in that hallow hall

In reply to newdread
Not really, note the absence of Courtney Walsh
In reply to Wally-1
Owen Allison, a real good one, just couldn't break into the Jamaican team but a fine batsman he was.
no mention of Laurie Williams?
In reply to Ewart
A jamaican bloke at the ground saw me bat when I was a youth player, after the match he came to me and say "you bat just like a Jamaican batsman name Easton McMorris,he used to bat 25 overs fuh 10 runs".He wasn't too wrong,I was very defensive.
In reply to newdread
nope... Clem Thompson, Aaron Daley, Patrick Patterson
In reply to Dukes
Feel free!

......and welcome back from your hibernation.

I have no problem with Frankie and Teddy being considered Yardies, but leave Blackie , he is 100% bajan.
In reply to ducks
Yes!

//
In reply to granite
"Bull" McMorris at one time was dubbed "the strokeless wonder."
But he was one of the better opening bats. You could not get his wicket easily.
//
In reply to Dukes
I would go further and suggest a double century!
In reply to Ewart
There was also a Breeze in the lineup, a batter, allrounder can't remember!
In reply to XDFIX
think it was Gareth . his dad was an administrator i think
In reply to sudden
I was a bowler strictly....and not one of any consequence either
Speaking as a yardie...90% of those names, no one has ever heard.
In reply to JoeGrine
Everton Mattis.
In reply to Yadi
An elegant batsman.
In reply to Yadi
TriniD was just about tuh post dis. Elegence...
The five most elegant Jamaican bastmen I ever saw were:
1) Lawrence Rowe
2)
3) Marlon Samuels
4) Samuel Haye
5) Everton Mattis
2 - deliberately left open, Rowe was that far ahead.
In reply to JoeGrine
#2 and i dont think he has been mentioned before on this thread
Xavier Marshall. the X man commeth
In reply to sudden
Noting the water down quantity. We into quality.
In reply to JoeGrine
I think Pinnie makes that elegant list, but he does so after Dujon.
//
In reply to Ewart
Sublime is not something I would use to describe Dujon, however, I respect your view. "Pinnie" absolutely, add him to the elegant list.
In reply to JoeGrine
Richard Staple was street and lane more elegant than Marlon Samuels
In reply to FanAttick
Only saw him once. Didn't see anything on that occasion to list him. For you to say he was more elegant that Samuels is saying a lot as Samuels has elegance in spades AND nickname!

I would add Richard Staple to that list-perhaps even more elegant than Marlon Samuels-but he never scored too many runs but he would give you the prettiest 20 runs you would ever see!

FanAttick- Just saw your post afterwards
In reply to jacksprat
Staple must have been that good then as you're the second person to mention him.
Perhaps the one time I saw him he didn't even make that 20
In reply to JoeGrine
Richard Staple was rated very highly but when I saw him he did not make much runs.
He was then eclipsed by none other than the man who became rated as the best batsman in the world, Jimmy Adams. (Before the blow to his face).Jamaicans used to call him "Mr. Reliable." And he fully deserved that title.
//
In reply to jacksprat
Agreed. Staple was the original 20-sinting
Shame we didnt have smartphones in those days...
In reply to JoeGrine
1) Lawrence Rowe
2)
3) Marlon Samuels
4) Samuel Haye
5) Everton Mattis
2 - deliberately left open, Rowe was that far ahead.
Peter Jeffrey Dujon as well.
In reply to Trinidave
He was mentioned previously, however, he is not in the same elegance class as those listed plus Pinnock and seemingly Staple.
Dujon, was an attractive striker of the ball but elegance carries more nectar.
In reply to Trinidave
I thought the gap was left for Walsh.
In reply to culpepperboy
Walsh's range was too limited.
His elegance was confined to the 'Leave Alone' category.
George Powell the opener, all brute nasty power.

Respect to Westmoreland's finest and one who was integral in the formation of the Poughkeepsie cricket club, NY.
In reply to Raggs
was the first batsman I know who played for Ja and was not playing senior cup.
There was another guy ,I think Luther Kelly who actually made a ton before lunch!
In reply to nitro
wasn't Laurie Williams also from Westmoreland, died too early!
In reply to nitro
Blackwood from Westmoreland also even though he came up playing for Hanover.
