Cornwall is fit

brians_da_best 2021-02-14 11:11:54

Can bowl 30 plus overs in an innings continuously, dives and takes excellent catches at slips. What more do you want him to do?

You want him to score more runs. lol

voiceofreason 2021-02-14 11:16:17

Exceptional catch to win the match! Needs to work on his batting as I know he is better than what I have seen of him so far. Aljo pass him up. 9 wickets and the super catching? Who cares at this point.

Yeah some runs would be nice, too. But bowling 30 out of 61 overs is no mean feat. The guy is fit for sure.

jahmekyah 2021-02-14 11:17:35

Congrats West Indies, That was a sharp catch by Cornwall

Imagine if he were fit. He's short-changing himself.

Run a 5K lol

Halliwell 2021-02-14 13:23:54

Look, sixty year old plus size men play club cricket and bowl medium pace 13 overs on the trot!!!

I want him to score more runs
And run as fast as Blackwood

That being said, 9 wickets is great going!!!

Great game by Cornwall, but calling him fit is a stretch. Did you see who ran after the ball when that first Kraigg delivery went for 4 byes. First time in my life I ever saw a wicketkeeper run after a ball when there was a slip fielder standing right behind him smile

WIForever 2021-02-14 13:57:35

In reply to Walco

I think they accept that he ain’t gonna chase after balls but his role is pretty set. Field close to the wicket and bowl out teams on spinning decks.

Walco 2021-02-14 14:10:42

In reply to WIForever
Yes, that’s his role. I wonder if and when they will start preparing wickets for him in the Caribbean.

pooranian 2021-02-14 14:15:20

Needs to shed 30kilos

Slipfeeler 2021-02-14 15:36:37

Amen, all this unnecessary chat about the player’s weigh and fitness but he has proven himself that he is physically fit and silence all his critics.

Not by any stretch of the imagination, language or jocularity is Cornwallis fit

nitro 2021-02-14 19:32:15

Good job Fatso!

They must have put him on a Keto diet. His body has substantial blubber to keep him going and going and going lol

Halliwell 2021-02-14 19:37:46

Further to this
Why then can’t Gayle take the opening spot from John?
Running isn’t a requirement on this side if you can do your main trade

imusic 2021-02-14 19:44:04

Since when performance ion the field of play is a criteria for selection?

Must be something new

The real criteria is did he pass the fitness test? That trumps everything else.

Walco 2021-02-14 19:52:51

In reply to imusic
Are you suggesting that Cornwall does not have to pass a fitness test???

imusic 2021-02-14 20:24:07

In reply to Walco

I’m saying given the selectors history, he must pas the fitness test. Doesn’t matter how he performs on the field. Fitness test is paramount.

Walco 2021-02-14 20:34:50

In reply to imusic
I think every other team in the world requires players to pass a fitness test before being considered for selection. In other words, the fitness test is paramount. Are you saying that West Indies should dispense with the fitness test requirement?

Actually forget that question. West Indies have already dispensed with the fitness test. According to anthonyp, a number of “special” players failed the fitness test a while back and still made the team.

imusic 2021-02-14 20:39:20

In reply to Walco

You’re confirming then that Cornwall passed the same fitness test as everyone else?

Veracity 2021-02-14 20:42:18

In reply to Walco

I am very confident that CWI management including Training staff do not ask Cornwall to complete and adhere too the same fitness standards as Kieran P.

Walco 2021-02-14 20:52:58

In reply to imusic
Not at all. It appears that Cornwall is subjected to a different fitness test than others, but a fitness test nonetheless smile It appears that he passed whatever test was administered though ...

Khaga 2021-02-14 21:03:42

Ravi Rampaul to Rakheem Cornwall..West Indians know who is "fit"

Slip is a good place given his lack of mobility.

His accuracy and always challenging the stumps won me over-

Deserved the 10th wicket too...an technically he got it...that catch for the final wicket in slips was worth his weight in Gold...

pun intended big grin

He probably will pass an American Football test. Plus they make 2000 times what he makes to play cricket. I guess them Footballers ain't fit enough to pass a WI fitness test. big grin

InHindsight 2021-02-14 22:07:29

The means is far important than the outcomes for many here.

So ok Cornwall could be fitter. But what he is right now is good enough to bowl his team to victory and take sharp slip catches.

Conorboy 2021-02-15 04:18:44

I really believe the worst thing he could do is go on a mission to get fitter and lose a lot of weight.
His style and action has been built over many years around his body profile.
I have seen this happen with golfers who have made the break through being overweight, come under pressure to become fit and then go backwards very quickly.

There's only one way to measure this, is he more of an asset than liability to the team?

The selectors have made the determination that he is worthy of being selected.

He did well but he is going to have to score some runs.

Yes!

Was very disappointed in his manner of dismissals.

I think they should have used him as night watchman, to have given him a bit of time to build an innings

Walco 2021-02-15 11:58:59

In reply to natty_forever

Mobility? No. The catch showed good reflexes and good hand-eye coordination.

How many steps did he take in making that catch? Perhaps we have different definitions of mobility, but have you ever seen his approach to the wicket when he bowls? He doesn’t even run. He takes a few steps and a hop and brings over his arm.

I’m done with this conversation though because I don’t want to detract any further from his great performance.

natty_forever 2021-02-15 12:01:53

In reply to Walco

Suh what you call the last catch? You waan more mobility than that? big grin

I think you need to define mobility. Cause I not understanding what his run up have to do with it.
