Gabriel is our strike bowler but always seem to be struggling with fitness. I think they need to incorporate more stretching in his regime.
Joseph should be further along.
Roach is only penetrative in conditions that suit his bowling
Holder is deadly when he is on but when he is off he is very placid.
Chemar is promising.
Paul has fallen away, he is the last one I would have expected to do so.
Oshane Thomas even with his talent is still a long shot.
Seales, Anderson and Harding, I don't know how good they are. I like the one from Jamaica that is now discarded even by Jamaica.

A look at our fast bowling
Ive had high hopes for Joseph and at this point I must put my hands up and admit Ive only seen about 5mins of highlights of the Bangladesh Test series but Im wondering if he will ever step up
He has got all of the physical attributes. He is tall has a generally good action, his pace is around the high 130s and low 140s which is definitely quick enough. I have certainly seen in the past that he is able to swing the ball, seam it and generate good bounce.
He has been unlucky with injuries, in and out of the side and not given a long run etc but I have to say I wouldve expected more from him. Definitely bowls good & dangerous deliveries but too many poor ones and is inconsistent.
His batting has developed but the bottom line is he must produce with the ball. He is young enough and I believe talented enough to make it but I am not as confident in this as I was when watching this young man bowling brilliantly in that U19 World Cup victory. At that point it seemed a certainty that he would go on to great things at test level, of course we know what a fickle game cricket is and that there are many barriers to overcome.

I think there is a need for our fastbowlers to get exposed to proper professional coaching early. I remember WI sending our Quicks to the Aussie / SA pace camps in the past. May be there is a need to invest in 5-6 quicks for the next few years. I dont see them developing in our FC/ WI set up.
I saw good improvement in our fast bowlers when Otis was coach but he had other issues to address.
In reply to Pacy
Yes... top quality coaching needed & it must be TOP quality. Opportunity of course is needed as well.
In reply to robbo
my recollection actually from that World Cup is that Joseph really stepped up once Chemar joined the team. Remember they used to say that fast bowlers hunt in packs. Maybe Joseph needs Chemar on the other end to bring out the best in him. Worth trying! In retrospect, it is a pity that Chemar was not part of this 11 to get some of the winning spirit at an early age but hopefully this is the start of better team efforts to come

As I mentioned in another thread, Andy Roberts, bowling coach of our original four prong pace attack would be able to sort out Joseph's inconsistency.
I am concern about the growth of Joseph as a bowler, to be frank I do not see satisfactory progress, usually a pace bowler who is going to be good would have achieved more by this.
Roach and Angel both have about 24 months remaining.
definitely the coaching team should plan as if those two will retire in a max of two years and start blooding other fast bowlers.
Sometimes Joseph is misused, I have seen a few times when either Roach or Gabriel is not playing, Holder took the new ball instead of allowing Joseph to open the bowling and even when the other two bowlers are present Holder will come on as first change ignoring Joseph. It cannot be too inspiring to be used that way.

That should not be an excuse. No bowler always gets the ball in perfect conditions. When the captain throws you the ball you have to quickly assess the situation. Then you have to ask, "What do I have to do to ensure the captain doesn't drag the ball away from me?"
In reply to robbo
Seems to working on his batting more.
In reply to Fivestar
It is not a matter of that to me, but more poor captaincy, poor use of your arsenal. Look at KB's captaincy. Big dif.
In reply to methodic
Genius.

Sometimes the captain is in a tough spot. Once Australia was 500 for 1 against the West Indies in the Caribbean.

We have good fast bowlers as pointed by u..... We need to revamp our senior team bowling coach .....replace Roddy with someone better....and these budding faster men should be in and around senior team set up.....where coach as well as senior bowlers like Gabriel,Roach,Holder can guide them....
Ian Bishop is the BEST man for the coaching position. However, it might be difficult to drag him out of the commentary box.

Alzharri Joseph is a waste of sperm ...

Most young fast bowlers like to bowl when the ball is new since they are usually the main fast bowlers of their regional team and are programmed that way, however Holder has a pattern of misusing bowlers, many times he use to have Chase bowling many overs before giving the ball to Bishoo, if he give it to Bishoo at all.
Lack of investment in our fast bowlers have caused us to lose quite a few of talented bowlers over the years , and we continue to do it now. It pained my heart to see Seales on the bench while Rampaul at 35 is representing the Red Force in this 50 over competition. Right now our best upcoming fast bowlers are Chemar Holder, Seales, McSween, Brrridge, McCoy and Mindley. These guys must be fast track program to play for the senior team and they must need coaching and monitoring to take them to the next level so if they are needed at any time they can slot right into the squad.

I was watching Alzarri and thought he could benefit from a conversation with or coaching from Ian Bishop.
Alzarri seems a little open-chested in delivery and - I don't know - it made me think that the open-chested approach may be responsible for what appears to me to be, his inability to hold a line.
I reference Ian Bishop because I remember a fast bowler who got quite side on in delivery.
In reply to methodic
I agreed with you usual,we need a school for fast bowlers.

add in Niall Smith

Very good observation. He does have a fairly similar action to Rabada, but he is not built as strong. However, he does have the athleticism of a Mikey Holding, who possessed the SLIGHT side on action I think youre talking about. Im certain Bishop can help him.
In reply to Conorboy
Smith needs to work on his STAMINA and getting that body a little stronger. He has IMMENSE potential.
In reply to Fantom
Andy Roberts sent a text to Michael Holding while Joseph was bowling against England last year. Roberts noted Joseph was not leaning away from the bowler prior to delivery. Therefore, he was not putting his full body into the delivery but mainly his arm and shoulder.
In reply to mikelegend
Can we point to a fastbowler who Bish has helped in the past
In reply to Fivestar
did he use your server?

In reply to Logic
Sorry, Im not going to do the research. However, Im basing my call for Bishop based off his analysis of bowlers around the world, and his own personal experience as an international fast bowler. He also has had personal experience of remodeling his bowling action(due to injury) and maintaining his pace and effectiveness. Bishop simply strikes me as an astute student of the art of fast bowling and someone who commands RESPECT. He also appears to be humble and articulates without being insulting.
P.S: It has been rumored that he has helped Shannon Gabriel.
A pep talk and a few training sessions with Sir Curtly will sort Alzarri out.
In reply to WICFan
Youre going to be asked, which fast bowler has Ambi helped in the past?
In reply to mikelegend
His coaching methods certainly split opinions.
In reply to Onionman0
You say replace Roddy as if he the source of our problems.....yet I hear the voice of Malcolm Marshall on his death bed. if they would just listen.......then you hear the voices of Holding and Roberts.
I have heard Roach say the only ones of the current Bajan crop who really listens is Dominic Drakes and he cites him as the next star.
Wasn't Ambrose previously a bowling consultant in the WI team?
Did the bowling improve under his tutelage?
In reply to camos
Actually, Holding mentioned receiving Roberts' text while he was commentating.
In reply to Fivestar
Exactly. This suggests he could even be a faster bowler.
Obed McCoy is left handed seamer that needs to be on the West Indies team.
I think a lefthander is a need that can help improve and bring a different variety to the PACE attack of the West Indies team.
In reply to methodic
Paul is way too slow and does nothing with the ball. He's so pedestrian, he makes mcgrath look express. Oshane Thomas has pace that you cannot get even by training hard. Either you are born with it or you are not and Thomas has it and he's very young to boot.
Realistically, paul does not have a long career unless he becomes good enough in his batting to demand a place. Was it not early last year, before the start of covid that thomas took 5 wickets( very rare in t20Is) and blew away SL. You cannot throw him away. Some of you islanders are just like the english. You want consistent bowlers but you dont want match winners. Steve Waugh said the Aussies were always happy when they did not see Devon Malcolm's name in the team sheet.
In reply to Jumpstart
Have you watched Keemo in FC cricket? He has an outstanding record and swings the ball both ways at around 80-85mph. He has played far too much T20 cricket and it is stifling his development. He needs to get back to opening the bowling for Guyana in FC cricket and taking wickets.
In reply to Beamer
And first class cricket is any kind of measuring stick........honestly?
Playing in the IPL is more useful than playing 3 months of FC cricket. At least the competition there is what you will face internationally
In reply to Jumpstart
At what pace do you consider pedestrian?
In reply to TheTrail
Ambrose would admit himself that he isn't a technical coach but would say it as he sees it and he was coach when the West Indies won the World T/20 in 2016.
He was criticized by Franklyn Stephenson a few years ago about a lack of input as a coach.
In reply to Jumpstart

How has playing IPL helped Hetmyer Test career, or his development in general?
In reply to WICFan
Crickets.
In reply to Jumpstart
No, no and no. Even with the current standard of our FC, you can see the improvement of people like Blackwood, Mayers, Bonner and DaSilva who played a full season whereas the Pauls and Hetmeyers have remained stagnant. FC cricket is still the bedrock that needs to be mastered before you move on to the specialities of T20, T10, ODI and test cricket. i would like Keemo to recover from his injuries, take time off to see how he went wrong in 2020 and then play a full season of 2021 FC cricket so that all can assess where he is right now and his immediate international future
In reply to Conorboy
I love what I see in Niall Smith. Good bowler.

why is soldier relegated to ODIs?

No, he was a good cheer leader.

Hope you are aware that learning is ongoing.
Explayers like Ambrose, Shiv, Ryan Hinds, Sully Benn, The Benjamin, has all gone on to get the Level 3 certificate in coaching, it is now to get coaching experience, and develop practices to assist students.
If Sir Curly can go out of his comfort zone, to learn to dance, on an Australian Dancing with the Stars, he will know about teaching students.
Walsh his partner may have shared aa number of coaching tips with him.
He should be in the West Indies set up.
Guyana was clever in having Shiv as a coach, and this season Head coach and manager, I am quite sure he working his bum off with Guyana cricketers, throughout the year.
In reply to WICFan
Alzarri is working with one of the Benjamin.
In reply to camos
His FC record isn't great.
In reply to VoopsandOut
Mayers first class season was not good. He was actually picked on his form in the CPL. Da Silva is probably the only one, although he was the recipient of a Pollard scholatship to play developmental cricket in england. Blackwood has courage nd luck usually favors his style. Technically nothing has changed
Before you get in a huff and a puff

Mayers was one of the stand out batsmen in our last 4 day season with 2 hundreds and an average over 50.
